»How do humans have a choice?«

At the end of M3 the arrangement between the oracle and the architect was that everybody who wants to be free is allowed to be free. But how do they get the chance to make their own decesions. Do the machines meet everybody and ask them if they want to be free?
Or are the people of Zion allowed to free everybody out of the Matrix?

my theory about the end: I guess that when Smith copied hisself into Neo, his purpose was fulfilled. And then he was no longer needed and that's why all of the Smiths exploded. So I guess Neo died.

yeah i wondered about that....i guess its just the ones who become aware of it, like Thomas Anderson and the Kid did

the "awareness" that neo had was part of his code of being the "One". i would imagine that all humans plugged into the matrix would have the same awareness and have the ability to choose to stay or leave the matrix. not everyone would want to leave (like cypher from M1), so the machines would still be able to learn from humans, which is what i think the machines have been doing this whole time even though it seems like they have been using humans as batteries (human point of view).

Maybe later there be a software like the oracle and that program talk to the humans and show them the choice.

it will prbably be via television some special announcment on cnn or whatever

yes, that the way. The will use the television to keep the humans. Like us on this real world. We are slave too. See the television. They use us.

Also, The machine will try to do whatever they can do to keep the humans, thay will show them the ungly of the real world and the good of matrix world.

but u will have a choice, in that way ull be free...i for one would go for the matrix (unless they kick me out for abusing the abilty to drink indefinetly )

I might be wrong i just saw the movie last night and the architect said that everyone would be freed from the matrix this means no humans at all n the matrix , only programs like oracle and seti, etc.

Remember back to m1 when they apologize to Neo saying he is past the normal age for taking someone out of the matrix. Most adult's minds can't handle The Truth. How will that go over now if they start trying to 'free' everyone, and give them a 'choice'. You're gonna have the whole damn planet going to psychiatrist and doing drugs...lol

it doesnt matter how old are u, if you find out that u are living in a big fat lie while submerged in some freakish liquid pumped full of wires ud probably freak out for a month or two...

Maybe before the Matrix came out. But now everyone would be like "Hey, cool, like in the Matrix."

It is already established, that the Matrix works because humans are given a choice. What is THAT choice? It's the choice to accept that what you can taste, touch, see and hear is real. Those that don't accept the choice, live like Neo did and presumably Morpheus and Trinity before him.

Those that make the choice to deny the Matrix would be freed and handed over to Zion.

It is likely that the machines know who is rejecting the Matrix. These people if left inside probably go crazy and either suicide or, they are institutionalized. The Animatrix deals with one such case, and clearly the machines keep track of people like that. Once the machines know who they are, it would be a simple task to remove them from the system in much the same way Morpheus did for Neo.

I would imagine after this, that the machines and the humans would work to find an alternative to the Matrix for energy. The people inside the Matrix who do not reject it, would likely live out their lives inside. Once the last of them have died the Matrix would be shut down.
