the population:
the only hint is when smith tells morpheus in M1 that "billions of people living out their life". this figure is not very exact.

the planet:
we assume its earth but where is the hard evidence? we only see one city and this one is in the matrix. and nations are never mentioned. besides, the tunnels they move around in the real dont match up with anything we have today. yeah, i know it takes place in the future, according to morpheus 2199, but hey, why the tunnels?? a reason for these tunnels is maybe cause man kind lives underground. if we run along this theory what is the reason for living udnerground? a stellar colony?

the programs:
whats saying that agents and other programs arent actually hooked up real people somewhere else outside the matrix? we all agree that the architect has a human touch when he responds and smith acts very human in M1. neo sees everything in code, including other humans. then i must naturally ask if seraph is human? he has the glow that agents dont have (see end of M1).

the end if M1 beeing the end of M3.
why? i watched the M1 ending maaaaaany times and i cant see why it would be the M3 ending. im shure the brothers wanted to make three films but played it safe by giving M1 a real ending. frankly if M3 ends with the M1 closing scene my life will end abruptly. thats not the ending i want.

birthdays:
a lot of key characters seem to be very old. the legendary morpheus talking as if he was down from day one, the zion council are all ancient plus a bunch of other people that all have been in it for a long time. with the supposed zion living conditions and nutrition i find it hard to belive that people in the real world live longer than we do today.

close to the core where its still warm:
im no expert but as far as i know massive caves big enough to house a quarter of a million people close to the earths core dont really fit into my logic. i dont buy it.

human power sources:
im shure zion runs up a bit of power along with hovercrafts and emps. where does the human power come from and why dont the machines simply use the same powersource.

smiths agenda:
why is getting the zion mainframe codes so important to the agents of the matrix? arent they irrelevant if the matrix is going to be destroyed anyway? its not like machines dont know where zion is.

conclusion:
we dont know anything. for all we now the matrix is a program governing the survival of man kind aboard a massive colony space ship searching for a new world. the brothers W are fantastic storytellers and im pretty shure that they are logged in to numerous matrix forums around the globe laughing their heads of at our petty attempts to figure them out.

i see the numerals 101 through out the movies. i missed the clue there. anyone feel like filling me in?

You have made some pretty good points, we do not know anything, I think it is ment to be this way, the move is ment to be imturprated in many different ways. I think if you just watch the movie you get one view of the movie, if you watch it again and more closely you can gain another message.

Population:
You just made me think of something, If 99% of the people accepted the code then that means logically 1% did not. The 1% of people formed Zion, according to Morphious there are 250,000 people in Zion. Could this be the 1% of the population? We will probably never know.

The Planet:
True, we do not know exactly what planet it is, though several things point to the planet been Earth. The city within The Matrix is based on Humans history, it is a Human city. There are Humans within The Matrix and within Zion, Earth is the only planet I know with Humans on.
But since Humans gained a great amount of technology the planet could be just another world where Humans have settled.

Programs:
The rogue programs within The Matrix could just be hooked up other people, but why would they want to remain hooked up to live a dead beat exisitance. Smith does seem to know alot more then the other Agents, he asks them to leave when he talks to Morphious about the Zion mainframe codes and he meets Cypher alone. Could it be possible that the other agents don't know anything about these codes?

Seraph, might be human or he might not. He does have a different code then the rest of the programs. But that is maybe because he is different. Neo has a different code and so does Smith in The Matrix: Reloaded.

Ending:
Good point about the ending, the brothers might not have been sure the movie would have been the massive sucess which it has been so they gave the first movie a real ending, now that they are sure that the movie will be a sucess they will carry on.

Birthdays:
Nobody seems to have had a birthday party yet, and it is true about the living conditions within Zion. Morphious seems to know what he is talking about sometimes and then he seems not to have a clue.

Core:
True, but since there was a massive war the tunnels could have been created as a result.

Human Power:
They seem to have an unlimited amount of power, they also have the only water which I have seen outside The Matrix. Maybe this is beacause they are more clever then humans.

101:
Yeah, there do seem to be alot of 101's within The Matrix, Neo's appartment is 101, the floor of the Merovingian is 101. The machine city is 01. I also found this from another website.

Neo's room number in The Matrix is 101. Room 101 in George Orwell's novel '1984' is where people are sent to be tortured and brainwashed into believing things that aren't true.

Since alot of the brothers content comes from other books, films or cartoons this could be a reason.

The Warnerchowski Bros are great, but not as great as a combined matrix-community using every waking moment in pursuit of the original ideas behind the matrix movies.

I guess they are reading posts like yours, and think to them selves: "Wow, this guy will be really disappointed, but the rest of the audience will be happy, 'coz we spend 40 bill. dollars on a 10 sec. fight!"
