I thought I made some really good inputs. Then someone said they'd never had the impulse to rape and proceeded to talk very guiltily about it. After that I kind of lost my place.

The point is that I have made some suggestions in posts but I still haven't voted. Anyone want to give me a hand making my mind up here?

That as quite possibly the smartest shiznit I've ever read.

Why do people have impulses to touch and grasp the butt?

This is going to start a whole new topic!

as long as 'you' believe you are 'human' then you will buy into emotions and act on them. 'human' is only another label. energy cannot be defined or labeled or packaged.

That's why Jesus (Neo) came along right? To teach us that turning the other cheek is a denial of our impulses. That is the heroic thing to do. Actually, the entire Zion thing is pretty much denial of impulse.

However, as we know, being a hero is a killer job. And yet we all want to be the one. That entire way of thinking is ego bound.

To quote the Spiderman films: "With great power, comes great responsibility"....

OK, I know Spiderman isn't exactly the deepest of films, but this quote is pretty relevant to this conversation.

I think many people would love the powers involved with being the one. I think a fraction of them (or even none of them, bar Neo himself) could hold the responsibilty involved with these powers. Hence why there is only one 'one'....

First of all I think everyone is a bit off track here. The statement Mouse made has nothing to do with rape ... and I find it very strange that was even brought up in this thread. Now back to the original idea: In the movie Mouse offers up the pretty woman in the red dress to Neo as a virtual sex opportunity in so many words. (you would think Mouse designed this woman just for this purpose, the little horn dog that he is). Mouse states: "I can arrange for you to meet her" ... then Neo just looks at him with no response. Mouse then states: "To deny your own impules is to deny what makes us human". Now, Neo ignores the statement because he may not be interested in such an opportunity and this is based on him having 'morals' and a strong love for Trinity. IMO Having sex with the woman in the red dress would be the same as a fanatasy / dream that one would have, since having sex with this woman in the Matrix is not real... it's just virtual sex. So To deny this impulse in this situation (has nothing to do with rape) it just boils down to Neo having morals. Now if I were Neo, I would privately meet with Mouse later on and get hooked up for that great program then have unbelievable sex with the woman in the red dress!... hopefully Trinity would not find out, but she should get over it... it's just virtual sex! That babe was hot! But that's my porn version of the movie. To any single guys out there, there should be no denying of any impulses if you know you have an opportunity that 's worth any of the consequences (within reason)... and in this case it comes down to decision for most guys do you want to have virtual sex with that extremely hot woman in the red dress?, hmmm.. what are the cosequences... well as long as there is no chance of getting Herpes or STD's while having virtual sex... I say Go For It!

Some women have hidden impulses for each other....I can see it in their eyes when two beautiful women are face to face, close....They both know they want to hop on each other, but it's moralistically wrong according to society.

Not if they keep it their own little secret! : ) Decisions are made based on known consequences. As long as you are willing to accept the consequences of a given situation follow your impulses... you only live once. Ergo the original idea to deny your own impulses is to deny what makes you human. If you were born with lesbian or gay tendencies you should act on your impulses and ignore how society views it.

I guess our impulses are what make us human. It's our instincts which do this to us, so maybe Mouse was right.

I forgot to mention, that's the difference between us and machines - which is why they have A.I.

We can compare our impules and instincts to the movie I, Robot. If everyone has seen it they will know what I am talking about...

During the movie Will Smith tells a flashback of his life to about his accident. 2 cars crashed off the road and into the water. Will was in one car, a little 12 year old girl (her father instantly dies) was in another car. When Smith was telling his story to this lady the rest of the conversation went something like this:...

Will Smith: "NS-4 (a robot) was passing by and jumps into the water.

- Robot smashes through Will's car window and is about to save him when Will says : "Save Her! Save the Girl!"

Lady: "The Robots brain is a difference engine, its was reading vital signs it must have calculated..."

Will Smith: "If did, I was thee logical choice, calculatied that I had a 45 percent chance of survival, Sarah only had an 11% percent chance of living. That was sombody's baby, 11 % is more than enough. A human being would have known that."

Will Smith: "But theres nothing here (*points to his heart*), just lights and clock work."

-- Just lights and clock work, thats the main point. So we see that Machines do not have instincts, or impulses. Its their design and programming that chooses all of their decisions.

No matter what you say, The Matrix Trilogy was made perfectly.

How do you know that WE haven't been programmed by some higher entity?

Perhaps everything we do, whether we believe it or not, is based on rules. Even our impulses are still part of the very instructions that this higher entity (some call it God) gives to us.

Talk about a false dichotomy.

What makes us human is that we have a choice to indulge or deny our impulses. Did you watch the same movie?

Ok...So what does that have to do with Machines? My post was maily pointing out a fact about machines, not humans 66Scorpio. But your right, we do have that choice. We can deny our impulses, but the machines cannot deny their programming. That was my whole point in my post above.

Back to I, Robot real fast. After watching that movie that could have been the preface to the Matrix trilogy the way they create the robots (machines) then they turn on humans and war begins. I know that's a little off topic but I had to mention that.
