The problem with reporting on the really interesting stuff from the Matrix Online game is that the players who have the most access to stuff (i.e. the really good players who play a lot and attain a high level of skill) don’t seem to care as much about the kind of things we love to discuss on this forum. They zip right through philosophical or historical stuff and focus instead on gameplay mechanics and role-playing (which I found to be very tiresome and ridiculous).

Meanwhile, people like us from this forum who play or have played the game don’t have the time to do what it takes to get access to all the cool information—such as the Pandora’s Box story arcs, which require that you are a level 35 or higher. I don’t remember what the highest level I attained was when I quit the game, but it certainly wasn’t anywhere near 35. The only way I obtained the Records that I posted on this forum was to become part of a faction and convince one of the higher-level players to go through the Pandora’s Box again (he’d already completed it) and take screenshots of the Records for me.

Using the Pandora’s Box as an example, there is a wealth of information in those story arcs that would be highly informative for this forum. I know this from doing lots of research on the game’s forum and seeing what other players had to say about it. They hinted at all kinds of things that are revealed about the history of the Matrix. But what I’ve noticed is that all the higher-level players who have completed the Pandora’s Box story arcs don’t take notes while they’re going through it. They say things like, “Yeah, there was something about the Keymaker being the brother of the Boxmaker or something…” or, “I think Seraph used to be one of the angelic agents from a previous version...” There’s obviously hints of really cool info that these players are trying to recall, but without concrete evidence--like screenshots containing direct quotes from the characters encountered during the story arcs--we rely on players’ memory. And personally, I don’t like to rely on people’s memory.

Now, Gerik might be the exception to the rule here. I haven’t spoken with him enough to know what he’s accomplished in the game. If he’s a high enough level to play the Pandora’s Boxes (and it sounds like he already has), then he might be our link to answer some nagging questions. Or perhaps it will answer some questions, only to bring up more. But hey, that’s what we love around here anyway, right?

God bless,

Does it matter if it has or not?

It always does. The direction(s) the author was taking the audience is one thing. Making a movie about the same characters and setting but not with the same intent, is something else. imho

And you should watch the Riddick films. Up there with V, he's one of my current favourite "anti-heroes".

PS. Keep us posted, Feral.

I have a few items left from the boxes, want me to take some screenshots of the details of each of what I have left?

Gerik, I've already got all the Records from arcs 1 through 4 on the Pandora's Boxes (check out matrix-explained.com...). I was hoping maybe you had some screenshots of conversation balloons (if there were any) that take place during any point in the Pandora's Box storyline. Do you ever have conversations with the Boxmaker? Do you have conversations with ANYONE during the missions? I really have no idea what it's like to do one of those missions--except the one where a fellow player opened up the last box with all the angelic agents in it.

Uhh, I can't remember, but yeah, I'll do the mission before the box and take screenshots of the text from it.

Would I consider it canon?

I'll tell you what I think the movies are. I think they are an opportunity for people to be exposed to something that will have a huge impact in the future. Something we may or may not experience in our lifetime. Does MxO's story carry that legacy? No way.

The game does. And, in some cases, did.
