»Is Neo really # 7?«

Here's the deal:

The Architect tells Neo that he is the sixth version of The One, and that this will be the sixth time they destroy Zion. I've read some articles and posts that say that The Matrix will not be destroyed by Neo, because given the importance The Wachowskis give to numbers, "6" is the wrong number; that the right number would be "7". And if my theory is correct, this may not be far from the truth; but if it is, Neo is the 7th "One"!

Listen carefully. Neo, at first, was the 6th "One", but you have to take into consideration the fact that in The Matrix he died at the end, only to be born again. So, when Neo died, the 6th version of "The One" died with him. And when he was born again, a new version was born too; the 7th "One".

Of course I wouldn't make such a statement without gathering proof from the movies. Here we go:

1) What The Oracle told Neo:

Explanation: The Oracle told Neo he wasn't The One for two main reasons:

a) That's what he needed to hear. As Morpheus said:

Morpheus: Do you believe it now, Trinity? Neo: Morpheus. The Oracle, she told me I'm... Morpheus: She told you exactly what you needed to hear, that's all. Neo, sooner or later you're going to realize, just as I did, there's a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.

When he realized that he wasn't The One, he decided that Morpheus's life was more important than his, and that's what inspired Neo to save Morpheus and also what made Neo's powers appear for the first time.

b) He really wasn't "The One". At least not yet.

2) What Smith tells Neo in Reloaded

Smith: I killed you, Mister Anderson, I watched you die... With a certain satisfaction, I might add, and then something happened. Something that I knew was impossible, but it happened anyway. You destroyed me, Mister Anderson. Afterward, I knew the rules, I understood what I was supposed to do but I didn't. I couldn't. I was compelled to stay, compelled to disobey. And now here I stand because of you, Mister Anderson, because of you I'm no longer an agent of the system, because of you I've changed - I'm unplugged - a new man, so to speak, like you, apparently free.

This means that no other "One" from the previous versions of The Matrix had ever came back to life after being killed. He is the first one to do so, and kill an agent.

I know my theory depends on wether the Wachowskis gave number 7 a significance or not, but it's really something to think about. Wouldn't we all love to see something like this happen?

How can you conclude that? I don't get it.

Wel... he's next life... In the beginneng of the first movie u meets Mr. Anderson... He walks to the Oracle for the first time... He are still Mr. anderson... But he's nickname is neo... Later he gets killes by Smith and wakes up as he's next life... A life not as Mr. Anderson but as NEO...

Remember that Neo could do things that supposedly only "The One" was able to do. Like dodge bullets and stuff. And all this was before he died at the end of the movie.

maybe he wasnt the one until trinity told him that she was in love with him (which is why he came back to life)...

when neo is talking to archie and all the blah about the 6th time and the neo's saying "4,3,1,2,5" before me' the center monitor is the one with the 'actual' living neo, who is silent and pondering over all this, the monitor to the right is the one that says 5 ones before me then neo says 'no one told me, or no one knows'

the actual neo never said that there were '5 ones before me' only the monitor did

i think you may be reading that wrong.. when he says "something that I knew was impossible", he is referring to Neo destroying him. he doesnt mean coming back to life.

As you can see in the interview with Laurence on this page movies.nordic.mtve.com..., Laurence is saying Neo is the 7th "The One".

And just for everybody thinking "The One" is someone really special, you're wrong. Being "The One" is just someone who carries certain code which is given to Neo when he wakes up from being shot by Smith in M1.

He probably means that the impossible thing was Neo destroying him, but if that is the case, why did he know the rules? Why did he know wha he was supposed to do? The three agents looked very surprised when this happened. I'm not stating my theory as true, I'm just saying it's a possibility.

Blah, Morpheus talks about 6 candidates for the One. He has found 5 previous candidates as Cypher mentions as I mention on my site.

The interview link is good, though. This saves this thread from going to redundant posts.
