»Open ending in Revolutions, because that's Anime style«

I know this is "matrix explained" website and the point is to make up theories but here is a theory you should REALLY consider:

The Wachoski brothers has said MANY times that The Matrix is HEAVILY influenced by comic books and animes. Really great animes usually don't end with an explainable ending. They are never "hollywood" endings where the Hero wins and there is usually some irony at the end that messes up the way you interpreted the movie.

Trying looking at The Matrix the same way. What if it is all just one big matrix.. and EVERYTHING about the movies was all just to trick Neo (and trick us in the process) into combating the virus Smith at the end of the final movie?

You assume everything needs explaination. But many animes have ending which make you think at the end "well what exactly does this mean?". Think about the above scenario. What if it all just is one big simulation and the "Matrix" we hear about it all just a ploy to get Neo to met up and combat the "inevitable" virus Smith. In the end one will win and the matrix will reset. You have the end of the matrix trilogy.. yet it would make you think if all the movies were really just a simulation what is real?

If it's all just a Matrix are their even humans and machines? Was there really a war? Everything about the war of man and machine we learn from Morpheus... but if he was told this story from his ancestors in Zion and Zion is really just part of the Matrix how do we know that the prophecy is nothing more then part of the simulation?

What if they are all just program? Battling for control over this simulation that is the matrix and believing they are human?

Who knows... that's the point of the Matrix... if the brothers give it this great anime ending we will all have closure to the trilogy yet we will still think "well what really does this ending mean?". Thats what makes a good movie

The only weakness in this theory is the predication that Smith is "inevitable" and Neo's purpose is to fight Smith. The problem comes because Smith's "viral" nature came about as a direct result of Neo, which seems to be pretty clearly accidental and unforseen.

In other words, if Neo was brought about to fight Smith, and he actually 'created' Smith, they why have a Neo in the first place?

Further, if, indeed, Neo was "created" or "destined" or "purposed" only to battle Smith, why didn't the Architect tell him that to begin with? What was gained by distracting Neo with the speech about the destruction of Zion, etc.

The Wachowskis said that to sell the anime. If you watch the animatrix with a discerning eye you realize how incredibly unlike the matrix all the episodes are. They filled holes which didn't need to be filled and explained things which were left out of the movies for a reason.
