i know this thread is a bit old, but a lot of concepts have been treated here very crudely. i just had to reply. i hope everyone who has posted in this thread reads my views, and reply if u find anything wrong.

first the conjecture that everything has an opposite, and opposites are necessary and that good and evil are opposites:
what is good? good can be actions, or an attitude, which is based on love. evil can be described as actions or an attitude without love. here it seems to us that it is simply the presence and absence of a quality, and therefore they are opposites, but that is not so.
what is love? it is a choice. it is a choice to place the benefit of every other sentient being above oneself. a person without love has not made this choice, or he makes a choice to place oneself above every other sentient being. these are simply two DIFFERENT approaches. they are not 'opposite' in any way. now how would good necessitate evil? that would mean that one kind of choice would REQUIRE another choice. that is against the very concept of choice, because then it would not be choice, if my being good necessitated ur being evil.

so, the concept that good and evil are opposites, or at least the concept that one requires the other, is UTTER, COMPLETE NONSENSE.

now how did such an utterly fallacious concept become deeply implanted in our minds? it is, as in this thread, through the disgusting abuse of reasoning by analogy. analogy is very useful, but when it is applied to two concepts without any meaningful connection, it is extremely dangerous.
first the conjecture that because a coin always has two sides, good and evil always exist together, or are two sides of the same thing - a coin having two sides is a geometric property. good and evil are the consequences of two different choices. HOW CAN WE LIKEN THEM?

in the same way, light and dark are opposites, therefore everything has a dual nature? light and dark are concepts we use to explain sensory phenomena. can a concept used to describe sensation, be used to describe EVERYTHING? include GOD?

adam and jesus - they made two different choices, when faced with similar situations. that made them them opposites, and the same? GROAN.

quantum mechanics. it is a mathematical theory used to describe empirical observations. please do not use it to understand the nature of existence, good and evil, god, yourself, or your girlfriend.

god is everything? that is certainly open to debate, but it is not a 'given' as u imply it to be. the simplest definition of god goes something like this:
god is that(or the being) which brings into existence all that exists. he exists by virtue of his own nature, and has/needs no cause outside of himself.

this may imply that he is perfect in all things, because he exists by virtue of
his self. so he would have to be perfect. it certainly does not imply that everything that exists is god. and it does not imply that he would have contradictory natures, because he exists by virtue of his own nature, and if he is contradictory, his nature would not be perfect. and it does NOT imply that he can bring into existence ONLY that which is already within himself. hence is rubbished the claim that bad things exist, they came from god, therefore...

"And Jesus saw a man, and saw that a demon resided within him. He asked of the man, 'what is your name?' and the man replied, 'I am legion, for we are many'" - The Bilbe (loosely translated)

"Then there was Smith, the ultimate wildcard, a previous Agent, who could self replicate upon anyone he chose, a legion of deadly clones in Black Suits." MxO official Website.

It has been my belief that Smith represents the antithesis of Jesus, explicitly defined as Legion in the Bible, for some time. Although it is clear that Smith has many parallels to different scriptures, and represents many different things, (read up on nihilism and soloquism for starters), it is my firm belief that these parallels are deliberate. Just another mix to throw into the bag, I know this thread is 2 years old, but it seems appropriate to put here.

Is the Biblical character Legion really the antithesis of Jesus?
To my recollection, he only appears in the Gospels in the graveyard scene in which Jesus casts out his devils and into the herd of swine.
Where else in the Bible does Legion appear, ryanlewisjones?
Since he/she is so easily exorcised, I would assume Legion to be a minor demon, as opposed to Jesus' real principle antagonist, the Prince of Darkness himself.
PS: You might could tell I have seen Constantine recently.

Well then, this opens the debate.... Agent Smith is Lucifer.

I tend to picture The Merovingian more as Lucifer than I do agent Smith.

The Merovingian is well dressed, persuasive, slick, and evil. Pretty good comparison in my view.

Revolution is the birth of equality and the antithesis to oppression...
