How is it posssible to harvest humans?

Ive been thinking for a while about the humans being used as batteries. Firstly i would like to point out some scientific FACTS learned by most in early sciences: Perpetual Motion does not exist and thus energy cannot exist forever either but most importantly i hope everone knows about the Law Of Conservation of Energy. I understand that the machines and such are taking energy produced from the humans(such as heat) but lets say they take "x" amount of energy from each human, then due to the laws of science it would require more energy then "x" to produce this "x" amount of energy. What im trying to say is that it requires more energy to keep these humans as batteries then it does to produce them, and thus I would like to klnow where the machines are getting the energy to keep these fields of humans working.

Also, another point about energy, i am interested in what the people of zion eat? How do they produce this foiod when plants cannot grow with the sun? Or do they use systems such as hydroponics? Lastly, how do they power their city? I haven't seen the movie reloaded in a while but remember that neo is shown the poer creator underneath the city or something. If any one knows how those machines work i appreciate it.

All responses are welcomed and encouraged!

Councillor Hamann takes Neo down to the engineering level...

Councillor Hamann "..........I like it down here, I like to be reminded this city survives because of these Machines. These Machines are keeping us alive......"

Councillor Hamann "........See that Machine? It has something to do with recycling our water supply. I have absolutely no idea how it works........."

So as you can see these machines are providing heat, light etc... So I think that the food issue has probably been sorted by the Machines also...

But what of the batteries?

Thank you for your response but does anyone wish to tackle the question how can the humans as batteries posssibly produce more energy then they consume and thus are void as batteries or any other power source for that matter?

lets look at the description:

Morheus "...The human body generates more bio-electricity than a 120-volt battery and over 25,000 BTU's of body heat. Combined with a form of fusion the machines have found all the energy they would ever need."

There you have it, explained vaguely with "some form of fusion"

As far as food goes:

Morheus "...Watch them liquefy the dead so they could be fed intravenously to the living. "

Dozer "It's a single cell protein combined with synthetic aminos, vitamins, and minerals. Everything the body needs."

Hope that helps.

I'm glad you brought up this point. I think this premise is a major weakness but hey, it gets the story moving. Conceivably the machines might have kept humans in a matrix for the sake of intellectual curiosity -- as we would keep viruses in a petri dish, manipulate the temperate, supply them with different host bateria, etc. Just a game, an intellectual game. Problem with this premise is that it makes the AIs less dependent on humans for survival. (But then that's another weakness in the premise: that the AIs' machines are somehow stuck on earth. Given the state of their technology, they could easily colonize the moon and the rest of the solar system (after all, they don't need oxygen, etc.) -- in other words, get above the scorched sky, go solar. Humans are truly dispensible in this scenario.)

But I still the trilogy regardless (yeah, and I haven't seen the third one, yet or will it suck?).
