Well ive looked most of this site over but haven't found a single topic that answered what im looking for. I'm not completely sure any of you know these answers or if you can comprehend the questions I ask. I'm sorry if that sounds like someone looking to be flamed but all I see around me in this world is ignorance. Well...let me get to the point of this topic and ask my questions please answer after thinking about them for a few seconds. Is this world real? Being my first question ive lived out my life always wondering if im living for some purpose. How can we know if the world we live in is real. It could be an illusion we could just be here for nothing. My second question is have any of you truly been in a dream that you did feel was so real that when you woke you didn't know you were awake until you pinched yourself? Thirdly im just going to end my questions here for today I need more time to think about all of this. When we die what will happen. Do we just...die? Is that all that happens. Do we only see darkness for the rest of our existence or is there a state of nothingness? That is all for today I might post more again. Please reply it feels like something scratching in my head. Im compelled to know the truth of this existence.

Luckily, for you, The Matrix deals with these exact questions. Not the first movie on its own, but all three movies when taken as a whole.
The core question of "is our world real?" and what we're supposed to do about it is answered in that final scene of The Matrix Revolutions:
Smith - like you - asks Neo why he persists when everything we know is nothing more than a trick of the mind. What we see, what we love, what we believe in... These are just "temporary constructs of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence without meaning or purpose...and all of [those purposes are] as artificial as the Matrix itself".
So, what if the world is an illusion? What if nothing happens after we die?
No one will be able to tell you the answer to this question.
No one.
But one thing we can all know for certain is that each of us has a choice to define our own destinies.
Which is why Neo's response to Smith's quandry is simply: "Because I choose to".
Translation: "I make my own fucking purpose".
All that matters, oh reaper of shadows, is what you do now.
And let that be the beginning of all choices you make henceforth
Best of luck

I get "deja vu" at least 5 times a day and I can't just throw that into me thinking it is only coincidence. |
I too am a very deja vu-prone individual.
I've often wondered what it is I am experiencing during a deja vu. I always feel as though I remember having dreamed it a few days earlier. A bit like Neo seeing his visions of Trinity and the powerlines.
If this is the case, then this would mean that a deterministic universe that humans may be able to access through mental training actually does exist.

We can't.
That's the crux point: we can never know whether or not the world, as it exists in our individual metaphysical constructs, is a reflection on the world outside those constructs.
But what we can do is to CHOOSE.
Even if that choice is pre-determined, we're still fulfilling our purpose.
Either way, you are fulfilling your purpose, be it individual or cosmic.
