What kind of people are looking to escape from whatever exsistance they believe they are bound to?

Is their a pattern?

If the Matrix is real why am I (or yourself for that matter) here?

The Matrix starts off as a classic alienation/paranoia movie: a man realizing something is wrong with his world, but lacking the information to come up with the true picture. But half an hour in, it becomes a science fiction flik, albeit a very good one.

There was a similar theme in The Truman Show, the hero realizing his world is not right, and the movie is about him escaping to the real reality. The Truman Show ends when Truman escapes, though this is the point in The Matrix where the movie begins its Act II.

There was another movie, called Pi, about a mathematician who is searching for the number that will unlock the secret of the universe. It's hero is something like Neo, though much more obsessive, and Pi's look is similar to the first half hour of The Matrix. It ends with him finding enlightenment. Interestingly enough, it happens in a manner similar to that of the ending of Matrix Reloaded: the hero goes from a room filled with computer gear through a door with white light on the other side.

Anyway, a lot of people feel alienation, often with good reason. The Matrix uses this as a starting point and takes off with it.

Very few people realize that they are in bondage.

The Matrix is a made up world by the machines in orther to fool humans that they are ok but in reality the machines are sucking the life out of the humans.

Is their a pattern?
Through out history people in power manipulate the poor and ignorant.

The Egyptian Pharaohs manipulated and control the slaves to build their pyramids.

Now we have a more civilized government and Presidents with a democratic rule were the people elect their leaders.
or is it realy?
We are given the choice to elect a leader.
But is it a real choice or is it an illusion, created between those with power, and those without.

Why are we here?
Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain. But you feel it. You've felt it your entire life. That there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is but it's there, like a splinter in your mind driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I'm talking about?

Morpheus: You've been living in a dream world, Neo.
