The matrix is one of the greatest movies of all time no doubt about it and shall remain in the collective consciousness for a long time to come, yet there is something about revolutions which makes one feel that the brothers veered away from something which is actually what the first movie was about.
That something is this; free your mind. “The matrix” was all about freeing the enslaved human race, about people being made to believe in the deceit which surrounded them so that the could make a choice and free themselves. Morpheus talks of neo ending the war and bringing freedom to his people. At the end of the movie the message is clear the one is now enlightened of his powers and shall fight the system to free mankind. “where we go from here is a choice I leave to you”. A veiled threat warning the system of what was to come.
Sadly the subsequent movies miss out on this critical piece of philosophy put forward by the first. What we get are theories piled upon theories, enigmatic dialogues even unexplained happenings like neo stopping sentinels which is because his power extends way back to the source… beautiful moviemaking and exceptional storylines, hidden meanings and symbolism all very well thought out but hey friends! What happens to us? We mortal humans are left sleeping in our pods while neo fights smith, zion fends off sentinels poring in from everywhere and the merovingian dreams of the eyes of the oracle. I am a diehard fan and yet I feel that revolutions did not do justice to the first movie. The wachowskis know the movies better than anyone else and what they have shown they have shown for a reason, but the matrix could have done with a bit more of mind freeing a bit more than the architect coming upto the oracle and telling her that those who want out shall be freed, and in the process reminding us that he is not human.
In the context of the movies the kids story in the animatrix is far more inspiring than neo and smith fighting an epic battle in the rain, not that I have anything against it…just a thought.

Nah,... I disagree, because:
What is freedom?
Revolutions does climax in the trilogy's ultimate answer to this question.
