Kalki, that's pretty amazing. While I must admit that quite a bit of it went over my head, I am beginning to really appreciate how much thinking went into these movies--especially the last two. I can't wait to see what you have to say about Revolutions.

By the way, I figured out that the "prime program" is the Path of the One. In computing terms, a prime program (despite the use of the word "prime" which seems to indicate "main" or "chief") is a subroutine that is placed within a larger program. It has a single entry and single exit, which in the case of the Path of the One begins with the selection of 23 individuals to rebuild Zion and ends 100 or so years later when the next One returns to the Source to deposit the code he carries (the collective code of the choices made by the 1% to reject the Matrix). When the One does this, the Path of the One starts all over again.

In MxO, it was revealed that even though the Matrix was rebooted, the prime program (the Path of the One) was NOT reinserted. That is because Neo left the Path of the One (the control measure created by the Architect and the Oracle) when he went through the "wrong" door in the Architect's chamber and chose instead the "Path of Neo," which led to peace between man and machine. On a practical level, the Path of the One also could not be reinserted because the One was no longer around to select 23 individuals to rebuild Zion, which didn't need rebuilding anyway since it wasn't destroyed. What do you think of this assessment?

I actually agree with this to an extent and I don't think I've been saying anything radically different. Granted, the whole resinsetion business (i.e. did it happen at the end of Revolutions or not?) is still up for debate to some degree owing to MxO's arguably questionable canonicity in other areas, but the idea of the anomalies being reset to zero and the accumulation process (or "the path of the One", as some have seemed to call it) starting again is something I'm totally in line with. It doesn't detract from Neo's EM capabilities though, mostly because this is a separate issue (namely, the reinsetion process).

I'm not going to sift through almost 60 pages of text to see if I ever explicitly laid this theory down as wholly incorrect, but - off the top of my head - I don't think that I have. Feel free to sift away, though. I know how much some of you seem to love diggig around on me Very Happy

EDIT:
Right, I remember now that I said that Neo carried the initial, unhampered Matrix program. This was different from the idea that Neo merely hit the reset button on a particular "subroutine". Yep, I'm cool with either one, since they are both built around the idea that - one way or another - the anomalies are reset to zero and the process of their accumulation begins again. Also, neither explanation invalidates or negates Neo's electromagnetic capabilities.

Okay, don't take this the wrong way or anything, but I'm kinda bored. I came back after exams thinking that everything might be sorta forgotten and forgiven and that we could just scoot on along with minimal hostilities, but that air is still there. I'm sorry, but I'm just not really interested in that kind of an environment. Instead of spending time in that sort of place, I think I'd much rather spend it on reading, writing and meditating, which are really my primary hobbies outside of going on forums. I have a lot to do, too.

That's not to say I haven't met some great people, because I have, and I'm sure I don't have to tell you who you are. It's just that I've also met a few people who I feel just cause me more stress and aggravation and offence, as opposed to a truly pleasurable discourse. And I'm sure I don't have to tell you who they are Very Happy I'd just rather not spend my time in that way.

As such, I think I'm gonna sort of retire from posting, at least in this particular forum. I may pop in from time to time, but I doubt it will be anything near as frequent as what it used to be. So it looks like Gina's got her wish earlier than she expected Very Happy

Best of luck to everyone on whatever they choose to do.

MAX out.

PS Yes, Intell, if it makes you happy, you can choose to believe that I've just 'chickened out' or whatever Whitelaugh Best of luck to you, too, man. Be good.

Time to let logic in on Max's mess for a minute.

No kidding. We knew that, so what's to take the wrong way? And I almost forgot to mention, "who cares?"

max314 wrote:

It was. Max comes back responding to month-old posts INSTEAD of involving himself in the current discussions and yet rants about why things aren't forgotten? Max, you've gotta be jokin' or else you need to get checked.

max314 wrote:

Right. Because you brought it with you. <returning to 3rd person> You all will notice that the latest pre-Max posts were with Tozy, Captpostmod, Feral, I made a couple,...and aside from April 30, I didn't say 2 words to Max, but to him "that air is still there." So he reads and responds to April posts and gets upset and ignores everything said since then because his ego has suffered an affront and that can't be tolerated, yes? So he flames me and mentions me 2 times after that, all of this mind you for what I told him a month ago, that he finally came around to read.

Why such a long good bye? Should we get the locks changed this time?

I like how that sentence places responsibility for stress and aggrevation and offense everywhere except its source. Second of all, if I "cause" so much of that, why respond to me and ignore the posts of those "great people" that he mentions? Because he's more drawn to stress and aggrevation and offense and though he rails against it, he does everything in his power to keep it flowing from its source, which is Max314, himself. A good example is found in the tone of the OP. Everything is 'f'ing this, wankerfied that. If you believe different from me, I'm going to ridicule you and curse you for it.' But he doesn't like stress, oh no. Yah. Okay.

You used to be regular? No. You 'popped in from time to time.' So what? You must mean you're gonna try to not be so vocal and pushy anymore. Good idea.

And now to round out Max's perspective.

Despite his claims of "I already did that" and "for the <insert six-digit numeral here>th time", he has failed to make his case for whatever he thinks the Source is, or how Thomas' powers come from or extend to it, or truly explain his powers in a consistent, logical, or synergetic manner. He hasn't been able to merge his ideas about these things back to the story without screwing up the logic of one or both his ideas or the story. So, Max314, if you read this, you might wanna focus more on doing that than on your need to save face by 'getting back' at me or anyone else.

As Gina Rink pointed out earlier, Max314 has yet to establish what makes Thomas Anderson unique in the story from a sci-fi or any other perspective. Here's an example:

Even if you attribute his abilities (wrongly) to his implants that the machines imposed in order to jack his mind into the matrix and channel energy from his body, the case has to be made that these plugs can turn into or double as antennae and EM signal emitters. And there is still the problems of one person with the ability to use the "equipment" like so, even though other people have the same "stuff" and can't, or don't. And how it is done, if you want to be all techy and whatnot. And this still leaves the Matrix story as someone who was given some augmentation by captors and ends up outsmarting them because they didn't know that their own equipment had more than one use Gumpred (and this looks worse, when it is also claimed that they have time extrapolation technology as well) but all this doesn't matter because the hero now wants to die to gain for his people what they could now just take given the circumstances that they can just use their implants. Screwy Silly, isn't it? And that's not even delving real deep into Max's matrix revisions.

Now that might be asking too much because that is really hard to understand but I'll give it a shot, using some of the clues he left around.

At one time, Max314 was unsure of how his opinions would be received. But his opinions were not in themselves far-fetched and were pretty much in line with others' and/or the facts. Upon reading other writings, he found that to be the case. He also found out that some of the people he disagreed with but was afraid of, ended up looking stupid later. Now what I just described are experiences hardly peculiar to Max. In fact I think all of us have gone through these at a young age. Now, it caused all of us to re-evaluate things a bit. For Max, (and these are his words in another thread) it caused him to regard his opinions about things as just as valid as any "expert" on things. Now sometimes that is true and sometimes it is a dangerous assumption. This thread shows that this is one of the latter occasions, but I digress.

At some point Max fell more in love with his opinions about these films and his ability to argue/defend them than what the films are actually saying. This was hard for me (and others, I see) to detect until this thread, but that's the gist of it to me. Otherwise, I have no idea why someone who has argued for the movie on so many occasions would turn around and make them look as bad or worse than the critics he argued against made them out to be, and never stop to consider that.

Did the Architect Know?

Hey, my first post!

Quote:

Architect: ...While it remains a burden assiduously avoided, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led you, inexorably... here.

The Architect was able to plan The One's path all the way to this point; why not take it a step further? Why not plan it all the way through each choice (left door vs. right door choices)?

Quote:

Architect: ...rest assured, this will be the sixth time we have destroyed it, and we have become exceedingly efficient at it.

It is illogical that the machines would not make plans for all probabilities (left door vs. right door). The Architect evens seems to hint that there are certain levels of survival they are "willing" to accept. The machines were ready for the left vs. right probabilities.

Quote:

Architect: The function of the One is now to return to the Source, allowing a temporary dissemination of the code you carry, reinserting the prime program. After which, you will be required to select from the Matrix 23 individuals - 16 female, 7 male - to rebuild Zion. Failure to comply with this process will result in a cataclysmic system crash, killing everyone connected to the Matrix, which, coupled with the extermination of Zion, will ultimately result in the extinction of the entire human race.

Quote:

Architect: Which brings us at last to the moment of truth, wherein the fundamental flaw is ultimately expressed, and the anomaly revealed as both beginning and end. There are two doors. The door to your right leads to the Source, and the salvation of Zion. The door to your left leads back to the Matrix, to her and to the end of your species. As you adequately put, the problem is choice. But we already know what you are going to do, don't we? Already, I can see the chain reaction - the chemical precursors that signal the onset of an emotion, designed specifically to overwhelm logic and reason - an emotion that is already blinding you from the simple and obvious truth. She is going to die, and there is nothing you can do to stop it.

(1) Is the cataclysmic event Agent Smith? (2) If they have an 'expected' result for the door on the right, why not have an 'expected' result for door on the left? In fact, the Architect knows which door Neo will choose. (3) Trinity did die... and there was nothing Neo could do about it. The Architect was not surprised by anything. This was all 'expected'.

Quote:

Neo: If I were you, I would hope that we don't meet again.

Architect: We won't.

They didn't. Again, this was an accurate 'prediction.'

What does Neo have to say about it?

Quote:

Neo: It was a lie, Morpheus. The prophecy was a lie. The One was never meant to end anything. It was all another system of control.

At the end of the trilogy, when the Sentinels leave Zion, Morpheus' last words ask: "Is this for real?".

Great question!

Venerable Pindola Bharadvaja is one of the Buddha's sixteen disciples named in The Amitabha Sutra. Under the Buddha's auspices he attained the holy fruit of Arhat. Once when in a jubilant mood, he said to the faithful:

"Do you think flying in the sky is magical?
I will show you some spectacular acts."

He then jumped up into the sky, FLEW all around and performed many miraculous acts. The faithful were all impressed and praised him without ceasing. The Buddha was very displeased upon learning of this incident. He asked the Venerable to come forth and admonished him, "My teaching uses morality to change others and compassion to save living beings. It does not use magic to impress and confuse people. You have misused magic today. As punishment you to stay in this world to work for more merits and to repent for this misbehavior."

iddhi (Sanskrit:सिद्धिः; siddhiḥ) is a Sanskrit word that literally means "accomplishment", "attainment", or "success".[1] It is also used as a term for spiritual power (or psychic ability). The term is used in that sense in Hinduism and Tantric Buddhism. These spiritual powers supposedly vary from relatively simple forms of clairvoyance to being able to levitate, to be present at various places at once, to become as small as an atom, to materialize objects, to have access to memories from past lives, and more.

There are many perspectives of attaining Siddhis. One school of thought states that they are a normal set of occurrences that should not be focused upon because they will pull one from the path. Other perspectives hold that each siddhi should be pursued because it will allow one to understand the power of the Godhead. Siddhis can occur in two ways: naturally, or as a result of extended practice of austerities.
