[Matrix Reloaded]
Neo: "So we need machines and they need us. Is that your point, Councillor?"
Councillor Hamann: "No, no point. Old men like me don't bother with making points. There's no point."
Neo: "Is that why there are no young men on the Council?"
Councillor Hamann: "Good point."

Agents v.s. the Keymaker?

In the freeway chase, the agents are persuing the "Exile", in exclusion of other targets (ie Trinity). When agent Johnson confronts the Keymaker, he states that the Keymakers purpose is now deletion.

"Agent: You are no longer necessary.
Keymaker: We do only what we're meant to do.
Agent: Then you are meant for one more thing. Deletion."

Well, wait a minute...if the keymaker is deleted, than "The One" certainly can't reach the Architect, and make the choice to end humanity, or merging with the "Source".

So, if the "One" is truely meant to re-introduce/insert the prime program (or not), why would the system agents be trying to delete the keymaker?

That's been bugging me since the theatrical release, and now that I've watched my dvd about 10 times, it still doesn't make sense. Any ideas?

Obviously the agents dont know about the purpose of The One. You can see that in M1 too, when Smith tries to get the codes from Morpheus. He thinks Morpheus is the only key to destroy Zion.

The actions of the agents in regards to thwarting the humans loose in the matrix is independant of the mechanics set in place by the architect?

And really, Agent Smith can't be used as an example of a typical agent in any way.

No, the destruction of the keymaker by an agent in the system would throw a serious monkey wrench into the whole scheme to reintroduce the primary program back to the source.

Unless the architect is acting independantly of the system of controls he has set up. But creating agents that would bring down the whole house of cards on their own makes no sense what so ever.

Unless they didn't recognize the keymaker as anything but a "rogue program" set for deletion, regardless of the Keymakers importance to the grand scheme of things.

back to square one, apparently.

This is clear from the agent dialogue. He's just an Exile.

The Architect could just run off a new one. "No longer necessary" suggests he probably already has.

Better to have a tame keymaker than a rogue one.

Precisely.

What do you think would happen if the agents know: "Hey, there's Neo, let's help him to the Architect".

That CANNOT happen. The agents have a very simple-minded purpose. The proof of being "the real One" is to overcome agents. Even agent Smith in Matrix 1.

Good point! But that would infer that the agents have greater knowledge of the scheme of things than "me see Exile, me delete"...they seemed to be specificly targeting the keymaker, ignoring other targets.

Another keymaker...that would be cool, my wife almost cried when the current keymaker played bullet-sponge.

Thanks for your views!

Which brings us to the question that why the Key maker is "deleted", exactly when he fulfills his purpose?

The key maker – after being shot by Smiths - : “It was meant to be…..”

How did the previous Ones get passed the door to the Source? There are probably multiple ways to do it. If the Keymaker was deleted than The One would have to find another way in. I bet one of those Ghost guys could do it if you could find a way to make one cooperate.

I think the Agents are set out as deterents to general infilitration wether it's The One or anyone else. It's just their Purpose. They don't need to be told Why. Wink

Actually the way the Keymaker spoke to the Agent makes me wonder if as an exile program he had an awareness of something that the Agents do not. That the Agent programs are just pawns on the Architect's chess board along with The One.

Dear Mr. Renn

Ghosts certainly won’t be able to open doors, don’t you remember how insistent was one to keep the door opened? Shots in the hand?

Don’t let the passing through door sequence confuse you……if the connection between those two regions was severed, even the Ghost wouldn’t do much.

From Matrix (the Construct - Agent Trainnig program):

Quote:

Morpheus: Sentient programs. They can move in and out of any software still hard wired to their system. That means that anyone we haven't unplugged is potentially an agent. Inside the Matrix, they are everyone and they are no one. We are survived by hiding from them, by running from them. But they are the gatekeepers. They are guarding all the doors. They are holding all the keys, which means that sooner or later, someone is going to have to fight them.

Now that does ring a bell?

Regards,

atreides
