Apparently lol people like the matrix here alot.

Well agreed. I just joined this forum because i like the matrix a whole hell of a lot, i can connect to the matrix at so many levels of my life experiences, feelings and thoughts.

So what does my question pertain to my life storey?
Good question by myself indeed (sarcasim, your supposed to laugh).

My question is what is everyones take on the meaning of the matrix movies.
What kind of messages does the matrix portrey?
How come?
Is there any secret underlying meanings behind it?
How do you know?
What do you think the meaning behind the matrix series is?
Why would someone spend there time creating this movie?
Anything really...

Basically im curious of how everyone here thinks, and i want to get involved in this forum because of how i feel about the matrix (check my life storey, top of page), and what i know about life, and how i correlate many things in the matrix to myself and the world (such as this forum).

Any questions for me just ask.

(And ill post my thoughts on this question at another relevent time, after i get a feel of how people think, talk and act here.)

Distorted, welcome to the forum! Without getting wordy, I'll just tell you my experience with the Matrix and why I love it so much.

Like most people, I found ways to identify with the movie via the lens of my own world beliefs. I am a Christian, and I was able to find Christian elements in the Matrix mythology. I thought that was pretty cool. But there was a sense that I wasn't getting the big picture. It felt like there was more to it than just what I could readily understand. When the last two movies came out, that was even more apparent than before.

So I rolled up my sleeves and began burrowing down the rabbit hole. And I was amazed at the things I found! I found whole new ways of perceiving life, philosophy and religion, and even though some of them were wholly different than what I believed, they somehow complemented by own beliefs to a staggering degree.

Overall, I've been very enriched by the movies and by these forums. The movies alone are wonderful, but without the help of others, I would never have known the richness of the story or how far down the rabbit hole goes. Truth be told, I'm still burrowing...

Distorted welcome to the matrix-explained.com forums!

Now that I read Feral's post I remember the Wachowskis saying that they love to tell stories through different mediums..

So you have comics, games, animes and.... forums!

Call me crazy.. but.. I believe that the matrix-explained forums are part of the Matrix Saga in a way...

You know what, I think that is exactly what the Wachowski's had in mind--especially since they refuse to give their interpretation of the movies.

"I believe that the matrix-explained forums are part of the Matrix Saga in a way"

precisely what i said..

my question though 'feral boy', how did your belief in christianity change at all, if at all. Just curious.

Im an atheist, i have been since round 8th grade, the matrix (to me) strengthened me being an atheist even more. I could probably go off tangently why for years, but ill spare everyone.

Ive been studying psychology and philosophy for a while now and im always finding many things about human nature that many people dont understand, and have a hard time believeing; the matrix thus shows alot of underlying hidden secret messages, that from a first, second, and sometimes third glance of trying to understand what the secret underlying messges of the matrix are, will be forever ongoing; the Wachowskis purposely want to create a thinking environment for anyone that can slowly pick up on clues from the movie while slowly being persuaded to dig deeper just to fill your curiosity; as you say digging deeper into the rabbit hole, by slowly noticing anomaly's in human nature and the reasoning to why we do what we do and how.

And frankly ive loved what the wachowskis have done, people need extreme examples to shake them from apathy of ignorance. Ignorance meaning being blind from the looking glass, being unable to see through it, or even notice it is even there for that matter, and the matrix has opened up many of our thought processes through many forms of emotion, reason and thought.

My major goal in life which i have been working on for a while in my life is to do exactly, what i just explained the wachowski brother have accomplished....

Showing people truth, reality, what ignorance has done to our planet, that people have such vast potential to do amazing and horrible things. But if we sit around and do nothing, then clearly nothing will happen; but if we take affirmative action and think clearly, see reality, see truth and thus you have the potential to become what one could call "neo", an anomoly so to speak, to do great or horrible things, and whatever your choice is, is what you have picked and the direction you may have to follow.

(pardon my horrible grammer skills, never have been good at grammer)

Distorted Void wrote:

my question though 'feral boy', how did your belief in christianity change at all, if at all. Just curious.

One of the main things that changed was how I approached the search for truth. Instead of adhering to a creed or a particular religious organization, I chose to believe that the Holy Spirit would guide me personally on my search for truth. I still viewed the Bible as the source of truth, but I understood that my perception of it was flawed, as was every other human's. I will never have perfect understanding, but I believe it is my responsibility to make an effort, and that God rewards such efforts.

The other main thing was that I keep an open mind, which means from time to time I will change my opinion on things. Since my negative church experience, I've investigated all sorts of things that I never would have, particularily in the area of docrtinal truth. I used to believe in heaven and hell and that if you died without knowing Christ you would go to hell forever. Now my understanding is that heaven--or the place Christians believe they will end up--is actually described in Revelation as being on the New Earth, not some ethereal cloud city in the sky. God comes down to live with His creation. I believe the lake of fire is the purging process through which unbelieving humanity goes through their own fiery process of burning away imperfections. Eventually, all will be found in Christ and none shall be lost.

I no longer believe in the concept of the trinity, but believe that the Father is God, Jesus is God's word made into flesh (with his consciousness having a beginning point in time), and the Holy Spirit is the power of God but not a conscious being with a separate personality.

These are some of the major shifts I have made. I know a more extreme reaction would have been to simply leave Christianity altogether, but that is something I just cannot do. When I look around me at nature, I am unable to believe that it all happened by accident. Even the painful things that happen in this world are here to teach a lesson, so I'm not looking through the world with rose-colored lenses. God means for everything to work together for good, and He will accomplish everything He means to until the time of the consummation when He will be all in all.

That was a great post Feral Smile

I have to admit even my rock hard opinions have been buffeted by the waves of the Matrix-Explained forum. These films, and this forum, are a fantastic way to explore ideas so central to us all that are only easily communicated through allegory and to shift perceptions that have been instilled in us sometimes since birth.

Another thing about the meaning of the matrix; you all make it sound like it was intended as a religious movie, but i dont think it was, i think theres alot more meaning or possibly multiple meanings to the viewers eyes (maybe thats what they intended), than it is rather just one big religious movie

If you have any evidence that you think its strickyly a religious movie, let me see it...Heh i love to analyze..

Well The Matrix Is a Biblical Story
with the Deleted scenes Added back.
It is like "The Holy Bible The Directors Cut"

We all know Neo is Jesus That was the easy part.

There is another scene that tells the story of Saint Peter this is what I call "Biblical Character Identification". The purpose of this is to tell the viewer this character is playing this Biblical character.

For example

The Rescue of Saint Peter (The Bible)

Click and double-click to resize image

Acts of the Apostles 12:6-10
Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison; and behold, an angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the cell; and he struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, "Get up quickly." And the chains fell off his hands.

Saint Peter Walking on Water

Matthew chapter:14: verses 22-33
Jesus came to them, walking on the water. When the disciples saw Him, they screamed in terror, thinking He was a ghost. But Jesus spoke to them at once. “It is all right,” He said, “I am here. Do not be afraid.”

Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it is really You, tell me to come to you by walking on water.”

“All right, come,” Jesus said.

So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he looked around at the high waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted.

Instantly Jesus reached out His hand and grabbed him. “You do not have much faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?”

The Rescue of Saint Peter (The Matix)

Click and double-click to resize image

In a Scene in The Matrix Neo goes into The Matrix to save Morpheus.
Morpheus is Chained and 2 agents are outside the door and Neo is outside in a helicopter and asked Morpheus to "Get up!" and Morpheus busts out of his Chains and gets up and starts runing in 2 inches of water but Morpheus is shot on the leg and Neo realised that Morpheus is sinking and is not going to make it so Neo reaches out to save Morpheus.

As Morpheus is running on 2 inches of water it appears as though he is walking on water.

This is a Biblical Story retold as an Alegory to tell the viewer that Morpheus is Saint Peter.

Same scene different Movie

The Rescue of Saint Peter (Blade Trinity)

Click and double-click to resize image

Blade (Saint Peter) is capture and Chained up and Hannibal (Jesus) comes to the rescue through the Glass. Hanniball awaken Blade with a drug and Blade wakes up and his chains come off.

That people should wake the f..k up and realize what the hell is going on in the world around them, to turn off the tv and start thinking for themselves for a change!

People seem to believe everything the tv says, hey, I saw it on fox news, it must be true.

I reseach 9/11 a lot and always use the Matrix as an example, the official story is the Matrix and the people who still believe it, eventhough it has been debunked completely, are the ones who are so dependant on it, because if the attacks where not carried out by an outside threat, but rather a threat from within, who will protect them? So they need the false reality where 19 muslims attacked america, and they will fight to protect it.

Well money obviously, as usual. And the W's said themselves that they wanted to create an intelligent action film, and they did, and I thank them for it.

Okay, intell…after all that agreement, I’m curious as to what websites you like to check out for biblical refreshment. I’m always on the lookout for good stuff, you see. I like

askelm.com...
as well as
godstruthfortoday.org....
Obviously you never agree with everything you come across, but that’s the beauty of thinking for yourself, right?

I've been swamped with work! After initially down-sizing me a couple months ago, my company then turned around and called me back to promote me into a better division. I spend all day working on the flagship line- "The Complete Idiot's Guide"s which is a heck of a lot of fun (but doesn't leave me nearly as much free time as before).

I thought I'd throw in some sites I like to check out for religious inspiration-

koreanbuddhism.net...

and

Flooding the Earth ( Babylonians )

People on earth were out of control and committing every sin in the book. So God sent 2 angels to Earth to make the humans stop committing sin. The Babylonian angels did not have wings so God tied a rope on each of the two angels feet and slowly lower them to earth but the angels liked what was going on and the angels did not stop the humans so God decided to flood the earth.

Well I don't think you can see it as Neo being jesus in some scenes and buddha in some, Neo for some people may represent jesus to some degree, to others buddha to some degree, some may only see him as an asskicking computer hacker. I mean whatever you are into you can probably find traces of it in the Matrix. You can only compare Neo to jesus or Buddha etc to a certain degree since Neo kills a lot of people.

Hinduism and Daoism are also very noticable in Revolutions, although the reincarnation theme is there all along.

I agree with Ghosttrax that Neo is not specifically Jesus or Buddha in any scene of the films. But there are some very Buddhist moments (though overall the Matrix films are more Hindi than Buddhist).

The final satori scene would be the most obvious moment. When Neo allows Smith to copy onto him. "Why do you persist, Mr. Anderson. Why?"

It reminds me of a Buddhist legend...

There once was a student studying under a great martial teacher in India. This student had learned nearly all that he could from the master, and the master assigned him one last great task-- collect 100 fingers from 100 slain victims. The student set about his task quickly. He became the scourge of the nearby towns and people feared to tread the highway because they knew he may lay in wait for them in the trees that surrounded the roads. The student became known as Angulimala, "He who wears a garland of fingers."

One day the Buddha was passing through one of these towns. The town's people warned the Buddha that if he set off on the roads ahead, Angulimala would be waiting for him. But the Buddha walked on anyway.

And sure enough, once he had left the town, Angulimala sprung from a tree and lunged at the Buddha. But the Buddha kept walking. Angulimala attempted to catch up with him and lunged again. But the Buddha kept walking. Angulimala tried a third time, flying through the air to reach the Buddha. But the Buddha kept walking. Finally Angulimala yelled "Why don't you stop!"

The Buddha turned and replied, "Why don't you stop, Angulimala? Why don't you stop?"

Angulimala fell to his knees, tore the garland of fingers from his neck, and spent the rest of his days a pacifist and a great Buddhist monk.

The Story of Easter (The Babylonians)
Centuries before Christ the Babylonians had a Male Vegetation God Called Dagon that slept all year long in a cave then around the time of the Spring Equinox the Female God of Fertility named Eostre would come and wake the Vegetation God and he would make everything green.

The Story of Easter (The Bible)
John 19 (New International Version)
Taking Jesus' body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.

John 20 (New International Version)
The Empty Tomb

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!"

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

Then the disciples went back to their homes, but Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus' body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.
They asked her, "Woman, why are you crying?"

"They have taken my Lord away," she said, "and I don't know where they have put him." At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.

"Woman," he said, "why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?"
Thinking he was the gardener, she said, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him."

Jesus said to her, "Mary."
She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" (which means Teacher).

Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' "

Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: "I have seen the Lord!" And she told them that he had said these things to her.

It means what ever you want it to mean!

The real question is...
Is the matrix anything of the things we believe...
I.e christianity or budda or gnostic or sci fi.

Or is christianity the matrix and budda the matrix.

You take chicken for example...
Which is why the (matrix) taste like everything.
*wink*
