Thanks feralboy for the MxO stuff, I was thinking of you being the one with the info while reading this thread.

In answer to the posters initial question I remember there being a paragraph on the MxO home page while waiting for the game to start explaining the situation very well. I wish now I had copied it, because I can’t find it archived anywhere (perhaps you know Feral?).

It said something like “Neo had won the freedom for red pills and made peace between Zion & the Machines”.

There was quite a lot of info in that statement and a few others that followed that secured certain parameters, even if apparently they appeared to be false. Peace between Zion and the machine civilisation was one. Neo’s death securing red pill’s release another. However the machine system was under threat as more people were leaving the Matrix, depleting the machine hubris power-base of which the merovingian had sought to centralise his activities.

So while Neo’s work had set the rules, much confusion and illusion was being generated. Not least all the activity surrounding the illusive "Neo’s Remains" of which the machines could give no account. This was about the time Morpheus went missing in apprehension of them, although it is claimed he was assassinated.
