»What is the Priestess int he first film?«

In the first film, a character known as The Priestess (played by Larry Wachowski's ex-wife, no less) opens the door just as Neo is about to do so. She then takes them through the Oracle's apartment, and tells Neo "These are the other potentials." Another important note is that she seems to know Morpheus relatively well. Who is The Priestess? Is she a redpill? We have never seen any redpills with apparently permanent jobs within the Matrix itself. Is she a program? She would have to be an Exile in that case, so why aren't the Agents on her back?
