In his speech about who scorched the sky, and that they believed that without the sun the machines couldn't survive.

Morpheus: "Throughout human history, we have been dependent on machines to survive. Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony."

Wouldn't it have been more logical if he had said: "Throughout human history, we have been dependent on the SUN to survive." Since it was a bigger mistake to try to scorch the sun than to destroy the machines.

We haven't been dependet on machines, throughout human history, to survive. Now, I don't know if he's also talking about tools, but that would be wrong anyway, cause tools aren't machines - and he's obviously talking about the modern machines. The human race doesn't need machines to survive.

We have become dependent of Machines.
Have you ever lost Electricity in your home?
You will find that we are very dependent on Machines.

Electric light
TV - Radio- DVD players
Refrigeration- Air Conditioner - Heater
Computers- Internet
Game consoles
Cell Phones
Microwave Ovens
Telephones
Cars

Try to live without using any of this things and see if you are dependant of Machines.

Also we as Humans need the Sun light.
You would go nuts if you did not have sunlight.

Plants Need Sunlight. without Sunlight there would be no food. We need food.

The ironic thing is that we needed Machines to live.
When we try to kill the machines the machines defended them self's. So we knew that the machines were getting their Power from the sun So we destroy the sun light to kill the Machines but We humans also need light. In the end Machines ended up Needing Human Electrisity to live.

Constantine was a Sun worshiper (Sol Invictus) the invincible sun.

In Constantine's Time there were allot of religions and there was allot of "My religion is better than your religion" allot of killing and to stop all this Constantine decided to have only one religion the most popular Christianity.

The Egyptians had a sun god name RA and he had a Sun disk on top of his head. Constantine as a Sun Worshiper put his Sol Invictus behind Jesus Christ Head and we now know it as a Halo.

Well, I've always thought it was a refrence to the machines that they used. Humans used the machines to build for them and do all other busy work, while we sat back and had a good time. We were dependent on them so we would live our lifes without struggle.

But thats just my opinion.

* Oh wait nevermind... DaVinci answered what I mean. Very Happy

Yes, I have lost my Electricity a couple times - but I managed to stay alive. They do make life more conveniently, but we can survive without them. Did you ever went on camping?.. Well, I do. Sometimes I spend my whole holidays on camping. There's a beautiful lake, a couple of miles from where I live. I could stay there for months (If I didn't had to work) ..just fishing and playing cards (not on a computer ... real cards). I love it, it's acutally very relaxing. So I personally think that I don't need the "machines" to survive. I could do well on my own.

But I do need the sun. Just like everbody/thing else.

Yes, I know. That is why I thought that it would have been more logical if he had said: "Throughout human history, we have been dependent on the SUN to survive." instead of "...Machines to survive."

Hm, interesting but... that's another lesson.
Let's stay "on-topic", please. Wink

Anyway. I think if we stretch the meaning of "machines" in that quote, we could assume that he wasn't talking about the modern believes of a "machine", but the whole idea behind it. Back then, people were considering tools (hammers, nails, screws) - as machines.

I applaud the fact that you are not dependent on Machines that is great.

The Movie is in the Future were all of our work is automated and done by robots. Man vs. Machine.

The Irony is That Human are totaly dependant on Machines in the future to do everything and in the end The Machines are Totaly dependant on Humans to Live.

The Human and Machines needed the Sun to live and the Humans destroy the sun light to kill the Machines but We humans also need light.

The Sun was the 2nd most Popular God. Jesus was 1st.
Because this is also a film about religion.
For this reason the sun was a big part of the Film.

Humans need tools to plow the land to grow food so that they can live.

This Film is set in the Future were everything is Automated and done for us by Robots. Farming is one of those things.

Inevitability

What if by this term ‘machine’ meant all things created, whether by Man or the ‘machinery’ we see in the natural order we call Nature (everything is a machine if you think about it). What if this machinery seen in Sec-Renaissance represents the very nature of things and the laws that govern the universe? Once violated, whether a knife used positively for cutting, or loving caring thoughts toward one another, becomes alienated and is then seen as threatening, tearing and corrupting the very purpose they were intended?

So you see the Machinery is ourselves including all we create (material or moral) and the entire environment inhabited. The Sun could then represent the Source Light that illuminates and supplies life to all. Once cut off, all is in Darkness cut off from the source of life (think about the meaning behind Trinity & Neo’s experience breaking through ‘dark sky’ toward the end of revolutions.

It is said in the sec-ren (Animatrix) that because of Vanity and corruption we created the Machine in our own image and so became the Architect of our own demise.

In other words there is a natural order to all things, the way the machine/creature was intended to function. But through Vanity and Corruption we created Artificial Intelligence, corrupting the pure Spirit in Man resulting in a depraved aberration, falling into alienation toward the very machine/nature itself pictured in the Matrix.

In this sense the war is against ourselves, to rediscover through the ‘Spirit of the Universe’ our true image and so reflect that intelligence (not artificial) through all we create and achieve.

Return to Source.
