»Cypher: 'Someone up there still likes me!'«

Heya! Silly question here.

In 'The Matrix', Cypher calls in to Tank to get an exit out of the Matrix. My question: What's up with the car crash?

He had the deal with the Agents and all, so I can see how he can not worry about the SWAT team arresting him, but I just don't get the car crash. You see what seems to be an ambulance on fire. Now if he was 'captured', he had that deal with the Agents and all, so it's not like he needed to worry about dying. So I don't see why he would cause that car accident... and he didn't, since he said that 'Someone up there still likes me!' to Tank. So he didn't cause it to free himself. Unless the Agents and him planned the crash somehow to make it seem real how he escaped (because Tank may see Cypher being friendly to the enemy)...

Eh, still, it eludes me. Any help?

I think that you will probably find that The Agents did create some kind of diversion for Cypher to cover his tracks, he had after all made a deal with Agent Smith and he was the connection to Morpheus and the Zion Codes....

Cypher needed an excuse to come back to the ship without the others so he could kill them off. Operators read the code but I don't think they get specifics, like Cypher said "I only see blonde, brunette, red head" I don't think they see "blonde 38-24-33, walking east at .035 knots wearing a purple dress and heels with straps carrying a purse containing........." they see just enough to get the general picture. That being said, the operator didn't see the crash in specifics, he only saw there was a crash in the general vecinty of Cypher and he needed a way out. Like I said Cypher's goal was to get back on the Neb to kill off Tank and Doser and unplug the others so he could get his reward.
