Does anyone have any theories about how the Agents found out about the rebel meeting in the beginning of M2? Is it related to the difficulty of finding a broadcast location? How did Smith find out about the meeting? Did Smith follow the Agents? Did Smith somehow use his earphone one last time before giving it to Neo? Is Smith still connected to the Agent program (awareness of shock in the system)?

These all seem like possibilities to me, but as far as I can tell there doesn't seem to be any clues in the movies that suggest one way or another. It's not the end of the world if the Wachowski brothers simply didn't give us an answer, but I figured I'd ask...

I think that Smith was still trapped inside the agent network.

When the upgraded agents are installed, the entire network protocol is refreshed too and Smith is being kicked out of it.

Immediatly after that the upgraded agents chase Smith as an exile and they end up at the alley.

It all goes back to what I was saying about the matrix being too much code for even the machiens to process at once. WHen rebels jack in, their RSI shows up in the code, it's just not big enuff to send off any alerts. However if about 12+ of these anomoly codes(not THE anomoly, but they're anomolies) were together the machines would be more likely to find them. In M1 Cypher had to turn on his cellphone to get caught, it's plausible that a signal connecting two anomolies would be more likely to get caught, but who knows. I only bring more questions...

Flip a coin. Choose heads or tails but, if you knew every variable, there would be no choice, only an answer. That is how the Architect works.

Wow Mobil_Ave_Neo, indeed that is imaginative. That's one possibility I didn't list, and there are many other possibilities I could list. But my question is: what makes this possibility more likely than others?

it is the connection between smith and neo. Remember smith tells neo in M2 a part of his code had over written his programming in M1 when neo cracked smiths code in the famous last scene. Kina like installing a patch file. And since Smith carries a patch file of neo, he can more or less home in on neo.

I think that takes care of the question about how Smith found Neo, but what about how the upgraded agents found the Zionists?
From watching the first movie, I get the impression that the agents are privy to all information that any given bluepill knows. That includes what a bluepill is seeing. Remember that scene in M1 when a bum is sleeping in the shadows of the subway when Neo and Trinity are trying to jack out? Smith takes over that bum, which seems to indicate that he first saw Neo and Trinity through the bum's eyes (perhaps they can scan multiple bluepills perspectives somewhat similar to the many monitors of the Architect) and one monitor--the bum's--showed Neo and Trinity. Agent Smith then takes over that bluepill's RSI and attacks.

My point in bringing that up is that all it would take for the upgraded agents to spot the Zionists would be for a single bluepill to witness them. If the number of hardlines are limited, all the agents would have to do is scan the perspectives of all bluepills in the vicinity of the remaining hardlines and wait for Zionists to show up. If Joe Shmoe is walking near a hardline, the agents can watch through his eyes to see if he spots any strange activity. If he does, BAM! The agent takes over Joe's RSI and attacks the Zionists. Plain and simple.

Hi Feral,

Actually, if you think about every instance in which an Agent takes over a human, it is always after the human experiences a certain kind of "disbelief" shock. This was discussed in another thread - I finally had to concede to Mobil_Ave_Neo that there really is no example of an Agent morphing when it wasn't preceded with shock. This leads me to believe that the Agents don't have access to information from all bluepills. They are only granted access to people within a certain geographical location once that shock has been detected.

Think of Agents like security guards. They aren't allowed to come searching through your home unless they have reason to. For security guards, it's for the reason of protection of privacy. For Agents, it's for the reason that the system does not create any program with more abilities than what it absolutely needs to fulfill its purpose. Agents are security guards, and human shock is their system alarm.

That is why Zionists meet in obscure, secret locations. They can be seen by humans - they just need to blend in as much as possible... which makes me wonder why they don't take more normal looking clothes with them into the Matrix... if they're trying to blend in, black trench coats, black leather, and white suits aren't exactly the best choice! But they are kind of superheros, and superheros need super costumes, right? Wink
