and no, it wasn't because the Oracle told him, the Oracle merely told him that he would "find" The One.

Are you sure he KNEW ? It seemed to me, that he only believed he found him. He didnt know for sure. After all , this is the basis of belief.

In the orignal script Morpheus was obsessively looking for the One and each time he failed, resulting in five predecessor candidates who all died facing an agent.

Then Morpheus finally let go of his obsessiveness and guess what...Neo found him, not the otherway around.

Neo, as a talented hacker, was searching for the great Morpheus on the internet and such. This is how Neo got Moprheus' attention.

The machines are generally not onto what the resistance are doing. That is why the agents say the informant is real.
Cypher is the only person to betray the resistance in that way.

Why do you think it is called a hardline?

Cypher lets the machines tap the line that is why they know that morpheus's target is neo..After all the resistance is al ways after their next target

Morpheus has a strong belief that neo is the one, Because neo just happens to be the most infamous anti system hacker that there is. Remember that neo is guilty of just about every computer crime there is a law for..As in machines computers etc.. As in anti matrix. The one was always going to be a big problem for the system.. That is how morpheus knew it.

Believe me when I say that the machines had been watching neo for a long time. You will find that the only reason why the agents let neo go is so they could bug him and catch morpheus. They also let neo go because they knew that he was way over the maximum age limit.. The agents knew neo was going to die. But really neo is a human machine, He was always going to survive the unplugging

Morpheus didn't find Neo....Neo found him. He must have seen Neo looking for him through the internet so he knew he had a splinter in his mind.

Remember that morpheus had been searching his entire life for neo.

Noe was looking for an answer. Morpheus was the man to give neo the answer

Remember what trinity says to neo..

When he found me he told me I really wasnt looking for him. I was looking for an answer..

Also know that if you have a splinter it is annoying and painful. It causes discomfort.

The matrix is obviously painful for some people..

I see what you're saying. But how else could Morpheus possibly have found The One out of a billion people in the world? It's obvious in my eyes. Morpheus was reading the Matrix searching for The One, he saw Neo searching Morpheus on google search, he investigated and then found out he was a hacker. He was then sure of it, so he made contact with Neo. Morpheus can say he found him whilst Neo can say he found the answer.

You never know.

He might have searched for him via Yahoo, AskJeeves or even Froogle. It's something I don't have the answer to.

In The Matrix Online, it is revealed that Neo was not Morpheus' first attempt at finding the One. There was another person who was an athlete who had exceptional abilities. However, he was very cocky, and eventually was killed by Agents.

Also, remember that many people besides Morpheus are probably looking for the One. The Oracle knows which person will find him, and the story is obviously going to follow the person who was successful in finding the One.

What’s interesting is that Morpheus along with others have spent their entire lives searching the Matrix for the One and not you or even me (Oracle) can convince him otherwise. He believes it so blindly. However the Oracle indicates that Morpheus will not only find the One, but that without Him were lost.

Obviously a lifetimes search does not reveal blindness as such but criteria of which he becomes certain.

Later, after the Revolution the Oracle explains to Morpheus that the thing he had dared dream of while others would not, could not...

Neo Did.

He’s still discovering how deep the rabbit hole goes.

And so is believing in Him.

There could be another whole story about Morpheus' search and how he came to have such a rep with other Zionites.

"Link, Morpheus is crazy." "No doubt."
"G**d**, Morpheus you ain't gone ever change!"
"...I give you Morpheus." [crowd cheers]

I would like to see that in an Animatrix episode.

I do very much enjoy, however, the change in Morpheus from M2 to M3. Seeing him be in a state of doubt about his dogmatic beliefs and yet have just enough courage to still have hope in Neo is very uplifting. It reminds me of when I went through a bad experience at a Christian church, and came out not only with a renewed vigor to study the Bible for myself but not blaming God for what I went through. Quite the opposite, in fact. It was that very experience that gave me a hunger for truth, because no longer did I assume that something was true just because someone behind a pulpit said it was. I thank God for that experience.

In considering Morpheus’ belief that Neo was the One, consider Niobe’s belief despite his initial failure.

It is because of Morpheus’ certainty of belief and action that the path was engaged. He just couldn’t comprehend the explosive depths of what the key-maker was unlocking and like the Nebuchadnezzar was broken to pieces when it’s meaning struck (Hammer/Rock that Rises - Dan 2 etc).

To my mind Niobe appears far more reckless than he. His plan came together certified by many events coinciding, not least the key makers integral knowledge. She tossed her nimble ship to the madness of approaching the overwhelmingly fortified Machine City and then embarked upon taking a ship she’d never piloted before 5 times bigger than the Logos, attempting to navigate an impossible passage. Asinine!

I believe she was inspired by Morpheus (especially his speech) but was perhaps more open-minded in her approach to what would have to be achieved, whereas Morpheus had seemed to expect everything to just happen. He had a hard time keeping up with her!

However, as she said… We did it.

Yes, THEY did it. I remember the philosophers emphasizing that point on the DVD commentary quite a few times during M3. I also like the nature of Niobe's faith. It's a very simple faith, and it's not exactly a blind one either. She consulted the Oracle, who told her what she needed to hear. Based on what she was told, she made up her mind what she was going to do. The Oracle (if I remember correctly from EtM) did not even give her specifics of what she would need to do, only that Niobe would know what to do when the time came. And Niobe did know, because her faith is strong. Niobe didn't need to know about the One, or the cycles, or anything else. All she knew was her place and what she needed to do. That was enough for her.

...The Path of the One is made by the Many. I have a role to play, just as you have yours.

NIOBE: Wait. I need more information. How will I know what to do?

The Oracle stops drinking, and stares at her teacup.

ORACLE: There's an old Chinese proverb I've always liked. "The heart never speaks-" (She raises her head and looks at Niobe, whispering.) "but you must listen to it to know." You'll know Niobe. You always do

Thanks Inev! I should re-watch that clip to see how Niobe reacted to that last line from the Oracle. Luckily, all the EtM live-action scenes are included in the 10-DVD box set.

So.. Feral you've got the 10 boxset.. Some minutes ago I found some "secret" videos. They are in the 'Roots of the Matrix' DVD, select to change the language, subtitles, etc. click at the right arrow and then at the bix box. No you click at certain spots of the Matrix code and see the secret videos...

Anything interesting? I'm too lazy to actually try it unless I think it's worthwhile. If it's like five minutes of a webcam showing them applying makeup to the actors, I couldn't care less. But if it's Andy and Larry giving their own interpretation of the Matrix, then I'm in. And if it's somewhere in between, it's a toss-up.

It's the philosophers that talked at the 2 videos that has the Roots of the Matrix DVD and they continue to talk about symbolism etc and giving their interpretation about the Matrix.. One or two videos of these actually worth watching them.
