I was watching The Matrix the other night and wondered what the point of the mirror was. I was confused because it seems important but who knows it could be nothing.

the pill neo takes a a hallucigenic (Spelling?) when he touches the mirror he his halucinating, it makes this code stand out to others. Making it easier for Apoc to find this pod and get a lock on him.

I think it is a program the hackers use to isolate Neo's RSI, so that he can be savely unloaded from the Matrix.

Normally a rebel is transferred back to the ship's construct when he answers the phone.

In this case Neo cannot be transferred to the ship's construct, because his body is not in the ship. His body is still in the pod.

So I think the little mirror program is in order to create a mini-construct (see how the mirror literally isolates/eats Neo from his environment) so that he can savely wake up in his pod.

It all revolves around the separating your mind from your body technology. And using one to find the other. Something takes different forms in the films from that point on.
