Well, I do still find you humorous, although you remain stubbornly annoying, but both you do on purpose so I should not be suprised. And to be fair, while the others may have gotten more "silly" in their own responses to you, they did attempt to engage you at first in some kind of normal debate. psikeyhackr for instance I am sure was looking for a better response to his question of how the matrix could be so lacking in certain areas, while at the same time inspire multiple publications by outside sources detailing these same areas in the matrix films. Why don't other films have that kind of thing happen to them? His broader point was that given the volume or works, perhaps a corelation exists? Proof of any coorelation never exists, which is why he brought up the razor, and gave you the opportunity to respond.

You responded by saying this does not equate to real significance, since nothing new was born out of the matrix and it regurgitates the past. Every single work ever created also does this however, even if one sort of new idea is presented, it is based and derived from past knowledge and ideas. The point and therefore also the significance of the matrix; however, was not to create something new. It is by design a regurgitation of the past. The reason it is unique however, is that it was successfull in doing so on a level not reached by any film I can think of. Like I said, the matrix is really a diving board, it isn't something new. It is designed to bring certain old ideas out in the open and under discussion and it tries to do so in a way that relates with the current time... human civilization at 1999.

The ideas aren't radically new, it is the presentation of the material and the relevance of it to our current time, regardless of the regurgitated nature of the material in question combined with the success (finacially) of the films that makes them significant.

As for reams of work, essays, and theses on the matrix... give it time, it is already well on it's way, and perhaps the W's are also (in relation to the directors you mentioned)... but that remains to be seen.

There are no anwsers, only choices.

surely your name is a joke far more witheringly insulting to yourself than Berklian Idiot is to me. In bold.

It's not bold, it's sized because of the size of the emoticon.

Like Trinity said, "Dodge this!"

Surely an individual as brilliant as yourself should have figured that out. Nothing goes over your head.

Because if I had read your posts thoroughly, berk, how could I hope to still say anything vaguely meaningful?

ps. Did you bother to watch more than the opening credits of Magnolia yet? It's a good film.

pps. What's "clapped my eyes" mean? How does one clap their eyes? What is the sound of one eye clapping?

Hexediter, I, as usual, appreciate your attempts at a reasonable discussion. Really.

On the other hand,

Quote:

I don't think anyone's insane, just "intellectually inadiquate"...

Someone who can insult someone elses intelligence using misspelled words in the process negates need for any serious counterargument. [strike 1 & 2]

I have no problem with other people's spelling or with seeing insults of intelligence hurled back and forth. But something just seems wrong with seeing them together like that.

Quote:

...if I may take the liberty of quoting.

I'm sure you sound more intellectual saying this than when I see it written. Even correctly spelled, you weren't quoting anyone. [strike 3, you're out]

But NVM that for now. I actually found quotes on another forum that seems to address the root of why people have similar dislike for the films:

rainking wrote:

I don't think people liked the sequel because the concentration was different. The starwars-ish, impersonal feel of the first movie was replaced with a more intimate understanding to the chars. involved. Neo had all these powers and didn't know why. Trinity died twice. The all-knowing Oracle didn't know jack. Smith resurrected and had many followers not only that but had many followers to boot. The prophecy was a lie and was only fulfulled because of the Oracle's hand. And, people are still trying to figure out what the Arch said. This lead the ones who really didn't care with less to care about.

They also did something you should never do unless you want people to hate you and that's...introduce new chars. in the last chapter. People hate that stuff.

Or...

Fry: Married? Jenny can't get married.

Leela: Why not? It's clever, it's unexpected.

Fry: But that's not why people watch TV. Clever things make people feel stupid, and unexpected things make them feel scared.

[Lrrr crackles onto the screen.]

Lrrr [on TV]: Attention, McNeal. Your unexpected marriage plan scares us. You stole our hearts as a single female lawyer, and so shall you remain -- or else!

Fry: You see? TV audiences don't want anything original. They wanna see the same thing they've seen a thousand times before.

Bender: (à la Arnold Jackson) Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Fry?

ps. Berk, you might intellectually impress the posters here when you can actually make a point. Wink Just a suggestion.

whereas so many people on this forum appear to be very confused about what is really significant.

Sounds like YOU know "the truth"? Feel free to enlighten us...

I can't tell the truth - beyond the fact that we live and then we die. That's about it. Why not make the most out of life while you're here?

We try.... Content, as in meaningful, might be a good path...
So, for a start, why don't you tell us your understanding of what "really significant" is.

It was quite refreshing to re-read these annals of hideous stupidity. I enjoyed myself for some time, then found more entertaining past times, but once again I'm chronically bored, and need more easy kicks.

You are just a waste of time.

Dang that really stung, you know, you really hurt me deep; you make my face burn with your witty repartee, you really do. I can barely look at the screen for the light of intellect and truth shining forth from it. You are a petite amusant, une blague, you ask why I am here, it's because you amuse me.
The Matrix is a well shot, well thought out and rather entertaining film. However its content is not worth comment. We can debate a Shakespeare play for 300 years and still have not come to a conclusive answer; wheras you can discuss the Matrix for five minutes and reach any necessary conclusion. You could discuss it for 300 years, spinning in circles, or just die of boredom, whichever is preferable.
The reason this film is preferable for you to analyze is that the analysis requires no thought whatsoever, as with any cult-like institution, and you can reach your state of nerdvana with a minimal level of though. The pseudo intellectual is not me.
As for people questioning why I make few points directly related to the Matrix, it is simply that there are no points worth making. As I said, this is no profound work, it is not worthy of more than five minutes commentry on its pleasing parallels with philosophy and religion.
It is almost impossible to argue against such a cult, however, because it is so very simplistic, and attracts such simplistic minds that it is impossible to dispute the nature of their beliefs intelligently, as blind belief is one of the most indefatigable forces in the world (take for example the Rev. Jim Jones).

I like this because it reminds me of running head-first at a brick wall wearing a rubber wig.

I wonder why... Whitelaugh

In my country, we have a joke about a guy driving the wrong way up the highway (we call it ghost-driver), calling the police in alarm: "All cars here are driving against the traffic!"....

That's a nice story. If it's supposed to apply to me, then i think it would be more appropriate if you consider someone driving a tank over a row of prams. Preferably with the babies inside.
