Forgive me if this has been addressed but when the Merv keeps talking about Neo's predecessors, wouldn't that cause everyone to question the idea that there may have been more than just one previous "One"?

yes but neo was not ready to understand it yet. "Know thy self"

Neo had to go to the arcitect to find the truth not only about the matrix but about himself.

And don't forget that everything went so fast. They didn't really have the time to analyze everything like we are doing now Smile

no sorry dee, i have to dissagre with you on this one, when he refers to his "your predicessors had much more respect". he was actual refering to the previous ones.

and also why i think the merv said that is because Neo actual stayed to fight him rather thatn run, possible this is what the others did they ran, insted of staying.

Why does he fight?

I dont understand why The Merovingian Makes his thugs fight him if Neo stopped their bullets? I mean, why would he think that his thugs will have a chance fighting Neo?

Don't forget that at this point Neo knows he has at least one predecessor.

Admittedly, Merv says it in the plural, but there are also other freedom fighters to come before Neo. Perhaps Neo also thinks that Merv is refering to those who have come before Neo who claimed or hoped to be the One (those that Morpheus led to their death for example, or the potentials in the Oracle's apartment).

Honestly, the first time I watched Reloaded, I didn't pick up on this line. Since I consider myself fairly observent and intelligent, I don't think it's impossible for the Merv to say things like this and not ring immediate bells for Neo and his friends. For one, they are more immediatly concerened with the keymaker then making sense of the Merv's words, and two, they are trying to stay alive themselves. Only when I watched it again did I pick up on this, probably because I was better able to seperate myself from the kind of drama built into the fiilm at that point (since I knew what would happen) and I was specifically looking for details where as the first time I am just experiencing the film, just like they (Neo and friends) are experienceing live events.

As for why the Merv doesn't fight? It just seemed to fit the charachter to me. The boss sends in his troops to deal with his enimies, and the merv is most likely used to destroying anyone who defies him, thus the arrogance.

There are no anwsers, only choices.

This is a bit of a random post, but in Buffy the Vampire Slayer the devil is called "The First" and is incapable of taking a true corporeal form. So it seduces and manipulates others into fighting for it.

Maybe it's just a feature of our concept of the devil that it can't fight hand to hand (or rarely chooses to).

You don't see Dubya breaking a sweat and his "team" is at war with 2 countries.

Thanks, guys, that would make alot of sense. The action was moving too fast for them to stop and analyze all the cryptic words being thrown around by the programs.

That might have been part of the point being made. Morph & Co., like the viewer, have been getting many "signs" like that along the way. But we may have been only concentrating on the action at the time. When the information gets repeated by Arc, then we know we have to rewind and watch again.

"Were you listening to me. Or were you watching the woman in the red dress."

"I was.."
"Look again. Freeze it!"

i think that were all like that.

but the same can be said, in this world as well. we are often looking at sign all the time, and hearing things that do not make scence, but there comes a time when there is someone that explains them or you come arcoss the answer in your own time.

i believe that this is how the truth is found.

Ooh wee! Now someone else sees the value of the real world approach.

That is how we are at times. I bet when the Architect stopped Neo dead in his tracks, he had to think back on what people like the Merovingian said to him.

In Revolutions, when he said, "I know what I need to do", and asked to take one of the ships to Machine City, he had been pondering alot of things that were right in front of him before, including things said to him by many characters.

choices are a hard thing to see, they maybe right in front of you, but you have to know what you looking for in order to make the choice.

is that what you are saying intell.

Absolutely Neo1.

The ability to choose means nothing without being informed as to what you are really choosing. The other Neo found that out before he answered the Smith on why he kept getting up and fighting. ("Satori" - Larry W.)

Apparently The Merovingian didnt know that This Particular Anomaly could stop Bullets. Maybe the Previous Anomalys couldn't, which is why he makes this statement

" Okay you have some skill "
