Everywhere I go it seems as though there is at least one person saying "Humans take up more energy than they create" Which is indeed true, and thus being true, it is not a mistake in the movie. Because if people would listen they would have heard Morpheus say "along with a form of fusion, they use the bioelectric energy...." ALONG WITH A FORM OF FUSION, that means they figured out nuclear fusion and use it to create energy. Just a rant i suppose, but like I said, I think this is one of the most overlooked lines.

Remember, the job of the robots was to support humanity and as such, this is the best they can do.
