I believe that that was just the case with revolutions...
The Wachowskis made the whole film just to end the trilogy.

It was ONE BIG ENDING.

Many tried to look past the fact that such an "amazing" story was fast disappearing into closure.

1.The people of Zion held off the final attack of the machines with the help of the hero.
2.The hero died for real because of his too-strong attachment to his loved won.
3.The antihero lost his purpose when he defeated the hero (one dilemma never faced by stories that end with the hero victorious on every front).
4.The machines can then continually use the bodies trapped in the matrix overrun by the antihero without worrying about the original flaw because the very nature of the antihero is to propagate no matter the consequences.
5.Now who would give a rat's behind about the other programs when they no longer have a purpose? They have their own limbo, anyway.
6.My post maybe years too late.
7.STORY OVER--(Just like that?)

We just didn't want to see it end.

Although if anyone cares about my opinion, I'd just like to say that i found reloaded and revolutions very funny, with revolutions making me laughing out loud in the theatre.
It tickled me how:
1.Everything had to fit, when they really don't, and
2.how the hollywood treatment fought with the true aim of the story, making some scenes seem nonsensical, and
3.the action--very obviously CG! And Yuen Woo Ping also had to leave his mark on the choreography, the way he made them used moves s if in a computer game, repetitive, and linear.

Just to stay a bit random, I'd like to comment that NEO, is like MATHEMATICS... He isn't supposed to be real. He is supposed to be just an ideal, a concept. But like how we prove that 1 apple plus 1 apple equals 2 apples in the real world, Neo had to prove that he can use his powers in the "real world", in the Zion setting, which is real in every bit. And so he becomes a true concept. I forgot the name of the bloke who had a theory that fit my description, that a proof of a concept lies in a different plane as the concept. I don't know wattchamacallit.

I didn't like the last match between Neo and Smith because I just didn't. I was laughing too hard to give it proper notice, I think.

I liked the first release best--everything then seemed to fit, even the sense of timing.

For me, the end wasn't really much of a letdown, but I couldn't take things seriously anymore, I don't know why...

Maybe because I really found the Neo versus multiple smiths scene in Reloaded very funny because most of the extra smiths, and the spinning Neo was/were obviously rendered/animated.

I think they underdid the special effects... Neo wasn't as God-like as he was supposed to be in the last film--although a display of omnipotence wouldn't make for a good scene. It may show him just doing nothing while things happen/form out of his thoughts/will.

I cant say I agree with that

Nono It comes CLOSE in my opinion. The first movie is almost always better than the sequels. Look at Star Wars and Flight of The Phoenix. 3Tooth

I like Jedi better than A new hope, but that's just me.

I thought the Matrix was about not being able to tell what's real, so when I saw some of the scenes in the sequels used too-smoothly textured CG models for Neo, and The Smiths, I thought the brothers had turned on themselves. It was almost like watching Gumby.
