Of course one has to be intelligent enough to try to distinguish what is and is not fiction.

If someone is trapped in the cultural MATRIX can their judgement be trusted?

Mind in Matricultural Box

The culture you are born into is a socialpsychological MATRIX. It is a way of thinking and limits your perspective of reality. The very words we use are an integral part of the culture. It is the Whorf hypothesis.

The word CZAR comes from CAESAR. The word KAISER comes from CAESAR. The Romans said, "Hail Caesar" and the NAZIs said, "Heil Hitler." And of course the Americans say, "Hail to the chief." We are caught in a Roman cultural matrix. If you look up matrix in Random House dictionary it says, "Rome is the matrix of western civilization."

This of course brings up Nebuchadnezzar. The name of Morpheus' ship. Nebuchadnezzar was a king of Babylon who had a dream interpreted by Daniel. In the dream was a statue with a head of gold, arms and shoulders of silver, belly and thighs of bronze, legs of iron and feet of clay mixed with iron. Going down the statue is traveling thru time. The statue splits in two at the legs. The bronze could represent the Roman Empire splitting into East and West which is still visible in European culture today. Eastern Orthodox vs Roman Catholic, Russian ex-Communism and Western capitalism.

The feet are like todays globalized world. A mixture of technology and primitive cultures. Third world nations with cellular phones. The internet making outsourcing possible.

Curiously we have this delusional split which does not exist in reality. Europe a separate continent from Asia when there is no water between the two. THE MATRIX has the European mind. There are only 6 continents. Europe is not one. LOL

Yah. I read your post in the other thread. You make good points. The Daniel chapter 2 interpretation is pretty good but it clearly deals with governments ("kingdoms") so I would rethink that economic application of the feet of the image. Iron and molded clay describes more the tendency of governmental systems to be more or less people-oriented vs the authoritarian/dictatorial ones and their animosity towards each other.

All of the people in the government are products of the socialpsychology of the culture. You cannot have an upper class that considers itself superior without a lower class to look down on. The government cannot be separated from the society/culture. You think the economy can be separated from socialpsychology? The people who make television commercials know better than that.

We are still part of the evolution of Roman socialpsychology. The internet is a new and interesting aspect of this evolution. It provides communication without social cues on which to base assumptions about the source of the information. Can you tell whether I live in a half million dollar house in the suburbs or a cheap tenement? You must judge by the text of a post. This is occuring among millions of people across the planet regardless of national boundaries.

How will that influence socialpsychology over time?

Good post. We must definitely be aware of the effects that our society and culture have on our beliefs and worldview. Hopefully, more people will examine their beliefs more carefully and not fall into the traps that so many people fall into.

I didn't used to think about stuff like this.

Then, I watched The Matrix and Matrix Reloaded. And it got me thinking.

What Agent Smith said before the Burly Brawl fight scene in Reloaded actually makes a lot of sense. Nobody is ever free, there's always something binding them to a purpose, which is basically what he said. And I actually believe him.

Also, the phrase 'Free Your Mind' makes a lot of sense too because I always find that whenever I cant do something, I just empty my mind and I suddenly understand it or can do what I was trying to do.

Those are my reasons for thinking the Matrix is real.

Yeah but what does that have to do with Daniel chapter 2?

Yeah but there's a lot more to the story. Ya can't throw out half-truths that you might have overheard without tying it together unless your purpose isn't to inform.

You don't need to read more into Daniel chapter 2 than is there to understand society. It's theme is more about the solution than a detailing of what the problem is, more prophecies on the same subject do that. Otherwise ok post but if you want to free minds maybe you need to explain what you're getting a more instead of tidbits here and there.

I explained why kingdom is more than just GOVERNMENT. What are you complaining about now? Where else have you seen THE MATRIX connected to the matrix of Roman culture via Nebuchadnezzar?

How often is Neo compared to JC?

You would need to read THE AQUARIAN GOSPEL OF JESUS THE CHRIST to find a connection between Enoch, Melchizedek and JC.

Explaining why you think it is, is ok. But when you quote someone else (i.e. Daniel), you need to explain why they intend "kingdom" to mean what you think it is. Reading the rest of Daniel (the context) might give you a clue. If you know what I'm getting at, try to make Daniel 2:44 make since according to your words.

You game?

A culture is a form of mind control. A way of not thinking for the vast majority of people within the culture. Thinking is actually a threat to the power structure like Galileo and Martin Luther created problems for the Catholic Church.

Daniel 2:44 involves the destruction of the statue/kingdoms and their replacement by WHAT? In the movie the Nebuhchadnezzar is destroyed and Trinity and Neo take the LOGOS. Christians say logos means "word" but it should be rather obvious that the word "logic" comes from logos. What kind of culture would you have if children were allowed to actually use their inherent logical capability and weren't brainwashed into believing illogical nonsense. If God created the universe doesn't he have to be intelligent.

Check out Mastering the Art of War by Thomas Cleary it occured to me while reading that book that the Chinese invented Vulcans 2500 years ago. How many Americans are familiar with the concept of Vulcan culture and now we have computers and the internet, THE MATRIX, for global mental interaction. What is the global cultural effect of that going to be? What is the cultural effect of THE MATRIX and STAR TREK going to be? Look at this battle over intelligent design in the schools.

I always liked Star Trek, both the original and TNG. But DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise to me just became an ongoing war story and lacked the exploration aspects they started out with. It would be like watching a series about the crew of the Vigilant and there encounters with sentinals in the tunnels when you really want to see them make incursions near the power plants and fields. Wink

Nice post about the relationship between the culture and its governments/leaders.

A standard feature of a human social matrix is an heirarchy of information. The people at the top know more and control the flow of information to the people at the bottom. That is really what the so called educational system is for. If we really wanted to educate everyone why not create a really great reading list of comprehensible books about important information and have this list in every library in the country?

No the schools are about psychological conditioning and produce people that fit into the matrices of government and corporate bureaucracies.

But now we have the World Wide Web. We can all distribute the information we want. Just like Happy Harry Hardon. LOL

I am here to mess with the economic MATRIX, Coppertops.

Good. Somebody's reading between the lines. Wink

You all perhaps are well aware that the focus in the schools are on adademic studies in preparation for college rather than on trades that would equip one for the workplace like the ones they keep advertising late at night from Devry and other business colleges: the more outer part of 'the wheel'. There is a reason for this.

And the prep courses focus on science, medicine, and law - closer to the inner part of 'the wheel' (less movement/stress while it's turning Smile ). Then in college, you have these courses, hazing, fraternities, heavy drinking, drugs, and wanton sex mixed in. There's a reason for this, as well.

Even in lower grades, you have the start of introduction to politics with the class presidents and crap like that. The intent is to introduce an unhealthy competitive spirit on an impressionable young mind that accepts what it is being fed.

Then after the transformation is complete after college, what is left? For one to pursue what they loved the most in the process. Fraternal orgs*, offering more prestige, influence, and sex; a life of more social competition, a game they have grown to love and play very well.

* Did you notice?
In college, after about 2 years, you become an "associate", 2 more you become a "bachelor", and third and highest degree is called "master".
There is an expression that says one was given "the third degree"

Just think about it.

You don't really disagree, you see the same things. That's why I didn't give a label to it as good or bad. Like life in the matrix. One can probably enjoy such a life more than "eating the same g-d goop every day" but I am trying to point out what it really is. I couldn't care less whether one likes it or not, just recognize it. - Then blue or red.

And it is good to see that some have made the Matrix into their chrysalis. I, in fact, promote that. Use them while they think they (or actually) are using you. But let's not forget how much blue pills you're offered that serve no helpful purpose in everyday life: How do Greek fraternities equip you? Binge drinking? Hooking up? Sports teams?

I used to believe more heavily in conspiracy theories years ago, and I guess to a certain degree I still do. But I have begun to understand that much of what we see in politics and the media is not necessarily the product of a few inner circle Illuminati-types sitting around a table and planning every single word that gets released to the masses. As anybody would agree, that's basically impossible--and unnecessary. All you have to do is get the ball rolling and the general public and the media work together to keep it rolling. That ball has momentum, and after a while you can't stop it--you can only nudge it slightly to the left or the right.

But anyway, a good analogy that describes how I think lots of stuff happens in general is in the Cube movies. The basic idea--especially in the first Cube movie--is that a government-sponsored project is headed by no one and yet exists and continues to thrive. People are suffering because of this project, yet no single person is responsible for getting it started. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, and so several groups of unrelated people unwittingly worked as a whole to create a project that has no known purpose other than to kill random groups of citizens. And since no one can see the big picture and knows the purpose, no one is in a position to stop it. And so it continues.

By the way, intell, the Matrix has most definitely been a chrysalis for me. I have learned so much since I first plunked down in a theater seat back in 1999 and had my mind blown away by one of the greatest movies I've ever seen. My wife has pretty much had it with anything Matrix-related, but the thing about it for me is that it's a springboard into so many subjects, that you could talk about it for years and never reach the bottom of the rabbit hole.

Hollywood has done wonders in putting out this kind of perception with Tomb-Raider and other things like this.

Gotta love hollywood again. Look up the history of the word (holly wood). The problem with this paradigm is that I never have seen any examples to compare it to.

Alot of what we see does appear random, but even the message of the Matrix is that "choice [can be] and illusion". Ted Kazinsky (sp?) targeted colleges for a reason, you know.

Faulty Assumptions?

Here is a story I ran across in the book Coffee Break with God. It demonstrates the importance of not just assuming things.

"A traveler at an airport went to a lounge and bought a small package of cookies to eat while reading a newspaper. Gradually, she became aware of a rustling noise. Looking from behind her paper, she was flabbergasted to see a neatly dressed man helping himself to her cookies. Not wanting to make a scene, she leaned over and took a cookie herself.

"A minute or two passed, and then she heard more rustling. He was helping himself to another cookie! By this time, they had come to the end of the package. She was angry but didn't dare allow herself to say anything. Then, as if to add insult to injury, the man broke the remaining cookie in two, pushed half across to her, ate the other half, and left.

"Still fuming later when her flight was announced, the woman opened her handbag to get her ticket. To her shock and embarrassment, there was her pack of unopened cookies!"

Many of us have had a situation like this occur at some time in our lives. Sometimes what appears to be true is not. Our perception is not always aligned with reality. For the lady with the cookies, her reality was defined by her assumptions. She assumed that her cookies were being eaten and stolen by a stranger! But the reality was that this stranger was more than willing to share his cookies with her and was offering an act of kindness.

So many times we accept our first assumptions or perceptions without even questioning them. We must be careful in our lives to not jump to assumptions about situations and instead check the facts of the situation. If the lady had just checked her bag she would have found that her cookies were there and not being eaten. She would not have felt all the horrible feelings she felt inside.

In the Matrix films we see that what people percieve to be the true reality is an illusion or dream world. What they just assume is normal is fake. Neo discovers reality by not assuming all is well but listening to something inside him that tells him that there is something wrong (the splinter in his mind). He also listens to the signs given to him by Morpheus and Trinity. He could have easily chosen to ignore these signs as just mere coincidences. By investigating and not just accepting things as they are he discovers reality.

We, too, must not just accept what the world tells us to believe. Just because our parents believe a certain religion does not make it so. We should investigate it to see if it stands the test of truth. Also, just because our peers, the media, and society tell us that something is so does not mean that we should accept it blindly. When we believe something that is not true (aligned to reality) this belief becomes a distorted thought by which we view ourselves and life. When we view life through a distorted lens we run into many problems.

Many of the posts here are tapping into the importance of checking things (institutions, government, etc.). That is very good. But how have these things affected us and how have we unplugged from these false ideas? Or have we? What are some of the distorted thoughts we used to believe? How do we discover the many more distorted thoughts that remain?
Whatthe

Peace
