Hi again

as you know I am a very new member while I guess these are the waning days of the forum

I don't know if thismatter has ben brought up before, but I hope it's no harm to mention it

I read in Wikipedia about the Matrix...

Quote:

It should be noted that the reason given in the movie for computers enslaving humans makes no sense from a thermodynamic point of view. The chemical energy required to keep a human being alive is vastly greater than the bio-electric or thermal energy that could be harvested; human beings, like all living beings, are not energy sources, but rather energy consumers. It would be vastly more effective to burn the organic matter to power a conventional electrical generator or to use geothermal energy or the heat generated by the dissipation of the tidal movements of the oceans and crust or any other not yet imagined source. The sunlight could only dimly penetrate the atmosphere in the movie.

Surely sunlight [1] and geothermal energy would be more effective, however i guess the humans in the Matrix are not consumers

A living being is a consumer if he lives, moves, walks and generally, acts

Since humans in the matrix are motionless, the energy they receive by nurition, is not spent in movement or anything else. Instead it goes to the machines, as should

I think my explanation makes the concept more logical than wikipedia seems to imply

I'd like your opinions. If this simple explanation is correct, we have yet to find out why the machines didn't use geothermal energy Smile

[1]Surely, if a Zionite ship couldfly above the clouds, the machines could easily construct a sun collector at this height

Some random ideas about that:

1. The rebels cannot fly above the clouds unharmed. Neither could the machines. It seems that the coulds destroy electronic components and render them useless.

2. It is never stated that the only reason for why the machines do what they do is because they use humans as an energy source. There might be something else behind that. I like the idea that the machines are in fact serving mankind by doing what they are doing.

And I do not remember that a machine or a program ever said that humans are used as an energy source. But I might be wrong here. Can someone provide a quote that proves otherwise? If there is no such statement, then, indeed, we even do not know whether or not humans are really used as an energy source.

3. We have absolutely no clue about how that kind of energy generation works. We know nothing about the technology. It might be very different from what we have today. It just seems to works somehow. By definition:

Morpheus: "The human body generates more bio-electricity than a 120-volt battery and over 25,000 BTU's of body heat."

That is the only information given to the audience.

4. Humans are not the only source of energy. As Morpheus stated in M1, they have some form of fusion.

Morpheus: "Combined with a form of fusion the machines had found all the energy they would ever need."

Then why would the Architect allow the extinction of the Human race as an option for Neo?

Neo mentionedto Archie 'You won't let it happen, you can't. You need human beings to survive.', the Archie said 'There are levels of survival we are prepared to accept'. Unfortunately Neo didn't mention the matter of energy to see if the Archie would 'correct' him and reveal if the humans had another sort of application

The original script intended that the humans were apartizing a neural network for the machine, but this concept was deemed too technical for the common public

PS. How come you have ready every quuote from the movies? Is there some script for download?
PS2. Is it me, or the forum is somehow dead? Guess I am late here Sad

Because he has to. Neo has to bow to the system out of free will. He has to make a choice. This is "the moment of truth", as the Architect put it. There is no way to avoid it. Otherwise this entire "The One" cycle would not work.

Indeed. This only is a hint that the machines need humans just as humans need the machines. It is s symbiotic relationsship on several levels.

How authentic is this "original script" you refer to? There are many fake scripts out there.

There are several transcripts from the movies. But not all of them are accurate. I don't rememeber where I got mine from, but you can do some Google work and compare them.

I read it in Wikipedia, source is not given, but mentioning that 'the writers felt that it was too technical and changed it', indicates this was taken from an interview or 'spoken' source, not a script
