Here is a mind-job.
It is obvious to me that the W-Brothers(warner,wachowski,whatever) have dabbled a bit with the old mental alchemy. If you doubt this, watch these movies candy-flipping.
The Lewis Carrol references alone show how important chemical intoxication is in this film, right?
"you take the blue pill..." you go to work tomorrow.
"you take the red pill...." you see how far down the rabbit hole goes.
Red pill, Neo starts tripping. Hard. The mirror(what an important symbol!) covers Neo. Bam, he is "awake." In Bizzaro world.
Cut to later, Neo meets the Oracle. She is taking a red pill in a red wrapper. She gives one to Neo. "Why are you here, Oracle?" "For the same reason you are...cause I like candy."
To me, an obvious drug reference. So, here is the twist. At the end, total enlightenment attained, mind totally freed, humans and machines saved...
and the trip is over, Neo wakes up in the chair. The drug was a Nano-game. Morpheus and Crew were practically terrorists after all, tripping out their fellow hackers with the most intense experience available in the modern world.

Yup, I guess the drug theory is better than the others (dreaming, using his own program, etc.), but I don't think the Whackowskies can do that to the general audience.

They would soon have the whole world tripping.

well if your gonna be super specific to an insane degree- it's actually "same reason, I LOVE candy" .. the point was the same.

"It's called Mescalin, and its the only way to fly". We all saw the blatant foreshadowing and references in Neo's mate's speech at the start of M1, maybe the "its the only way to fly" one is another, though this could just indicate that symbolically when neo took the red pill it represent taking a drug to "fly" when in this case neo actually gets release and is later able to fly.

"..same reason as you." and "I LOVE candy" are seperate
scentences....... meaning shes just being vague again......
also when Choi (Neos friend for the less informed) from M1
may say its the only way to fly. Prehaps that was the only reason
the brothers included it to begin with...... because it makes a good
end to a film? makes something good to look at...... you know?
Cinematography? Audiences? the works.....

The Oracle likes candy, well so does MC Pee Pants and MeatWad!
