Background:
Watched the films then read a bit on the internet.
Two people play a game versus a computer
Zion represents one player
Smith represents the other, hacker style human player
The architect represents the computer
The computer is logical, the 'Zion' player acts like you or me
The hacker sees a way to beat both the human player and the computer but has not contemplated the possibility that the human and the computer may join forces to beat the third i.e. him/herself.
None of the films show real life.
Reminds me of a world domination board game....
Enjoyable bit of fun, end of story.

Logically there are few ways to run the 'world' effectively. it is emotions that cause the 'world' to be a better or worse place to be.

Simplified Matrix story
In the beginning was Man.
Man created the Machine
Man abuses it and falls under its bondage, falling asleep (dreaming)
Something happens and a few wake up and begin to realise...
What? Reloads many times and then there’s a bang (Love)
Realises the truth, pays what’s owed.
A new day is born. Change begins.
