No, I prefer single player (EtM, upcoming Path of Neo) videogames for my Matrix fix.

I've been playing the game pretty faithfully, and I find it very interesting. There's actually so much going on that I find it somewhat convoluted. However, I think that they're busy trying to introduce all the new characters so that over the course of the first year they can use them in the story arc.

Here's what's been going on so far:

Morpheus is ticked off about the Machines not returning Neo's body. He starts making lots of appearances throughout the Matrix to all the players, preaching that they should all unite against the Machines and demand that Neo's body be returned.

He shocks everybody by showing a partially reconfigured RSI of Neo's body. He claims that fragments of copies of Neo's last thoughts before his death have been found in the Matrix. He believes that if all of these fragments are found, then Neo's RSI can be completely reconfigured (don't know what good that would do without Neo's mind to inhabit it, but maybe that's later in the story).

After he tries to stir up trouble with all the preaching, he starts setting off bombs throughout the Matrix. These code bombs don't actually destroy anything, they're more of a visual display that shows the underlying code to everything in the vicinity. The idea is that if enough Bluepills see these explosions and realize that their world isn't real, perhaps they'll wake up. If enough people wake up, then the Machines will begin losing power. It's an apparent effort to force the Machines to give up Neo's body.

The Merovingian hires a program called the Assassin to take care of Morpheus. The Assassin used to be in charge of the process in the Real World whereby dead human bodies would be ground up and used for food for humans that are still alive. He was also in charge of collecting the dead bodies of Neo and Trinity, although that responsibility was taken away from him before he could complete the task. As Trinity's body was being carried away, however, he happened to notice an odd device on the back of her neck.

The Assassin suspected that he had been listed as obsolete and about to be listed for deletion, and he was right. He didn't want that, so he escaped to the Matrix. One of the first things he did was accept a job from the Merovingian to kill Morpheus. And sure enough, that's exactly what he did. At this point in the game, the Assassin still appears from time to time, killing anyone who gets in his way.

In regard to Neo's code fragments, strange red-eyed agents began appearing everywhere and retrieving them. It was revealed that they were created by a group of programs called Shapers. The Oracle requested players to escort the Shapers to safety so that they would not fall into evil hands. Apparently these Shapers are very powerful and are able to create virtually anything. Their origin is unknown.

There is a new group called Cypherites, whose goal is to force as many people as possible to return to the power plants and have their memory wiped. They believe that maintaining the status quo is most important, and they will use violent means to achieve their goals, if necessary.

At Morpheus' funeral in the Matrix, his body was on display in a local church. After a while, the RSI burst into flies. It was discovered later that the Assassin is also made of flies--which Persephone describes as a joke since the Assassin is essentially the garbageman of the Matrix. In the Real World, however, Morpheus' physical body was never found.

Anyway, there's other stuff that's going on, but the stuff I mentioned seems to be the most important part of the storyline.

The game itself is $20 in the United States (dropped down from $50 when it first came out)

The monthly fee is $15. Now that Sony has acquired the game, you can choose to pay $22 and get access to not just the Matrix Online but also all the other games that Sony offers. You can see more info here:

station.sony.com...
(although the Matrix Online doesn't appear on there yet, it will soon). Existing players had to open up a Sony Station account on August 15 to continue playing the game. This was free of charge.

The trailers are cool, but watch out for their accuracy. I've heard from players who are really into the game and have been playing it for a while noticed that some of the features talked about on the earlier trailers aren't present in the game. It could be either that they found out that those features weren't practical for the game and removed them, or they haven't put them in yet, or they were full of crap. I'd like to believe it's the first two options, but you never know with this kind of stuff.

Personally, I really like the game, and it seems like the developers are doing everything they can to make the game awesome. At the moment, everything's on hold while the game transfers over to Sony. I can only imagine what a headache something like that must be and try to keep the game up and running 24/7 at the same time, so I give them the benefit of the doubt. There are always complainers on the game's forum, but I hope the devs take it with a grain of salt. It seems like you would kind of have to have a thick hide when dealing with a whiny bunch of people like these gamers.

I'm not able to answer that question with any certainty. For one thing, I'm not a heavy gamer, so I don't come across all the things that the game contains. There's places I haven't been, missions I haven't taken, and characters I haven't spoken with. Secondly, I haven't seen one of those trailers in a long time, so I don't even remember the promises made.

However, if you want to know for sure, you can ask me after watching a trailer. If there's a particular aspect that sounded cool to you, I can tell you whether or not I've experienced that feature. If I haven't, I know several heavy gamers that I can ask and see if perhaps they've encountered it. Fair enough?

I'm not sure how that would do anyone any good, because you still have to enter the unique code that came in the packaging, and it can only be used once. Unless you guys want to pretend to be the same person and share use of the characters. There are currently three game servers, and you can create up to three characters on each server for a total of nine characters. I suppose if you're willing to share those nine characters you could do it.
