Although we can find many connections (and i really enjoyed both parts of the scene, esp. the song, Zion) I think it mostly had to do with the fact they needed to develop the love sub-plot between Trinity and Neo, and they wanted to spice it up. But I'm not goona argue.

PS
Both soundtracks (From Reloaded and Revs. are awesome esp. Navaras on Revolutions. Sanskrit is where it's at!

the only thing i didn't like was that it was just a little long. Thumbdown
The funny thing is, when Neo suddenly stopped humping Shocked Trin...his facial expression was saying "sry...that's all i got." Whitelaugh

ah...and yes..the soundtrcks were good. i liked "Chateau" from Reloaded and "Tetsujin" from Revolutions.

I agree with you "Timothy", that the Dance/sex scene is to show life both symbolic and in the city Zion. And as "Jesus" said we see Neo's feelings for Trinity... so I find the scene necessary BUT still WAY too long!

They could have used some more time looking at the rest of the town or to Neo's visit at the architect. Whatnow

Reloaded is still the best movie to me. In stead of having to make a start (M1) or and end (M3), in this movie there's time for all the breathtaking effects in the Matrix and the too-good-to-be-true fightscenes!

SYMBOLISM

I disagree with several of your opinions. If you take a look at the symbolism in the rave scene, you'll notice that just before Neo & Trinity stare at eachother, there is a man dancing with dreadlocks and he flips his hair up in the air and you see water/persperation flying off it. In my opinion this symbolizes an orgasm and their blank stares are merely slow motion exhaustion

This is how I understood the Dance scene ...not the sex scene

''Tonight let us send a message to that army. Tonight let us shake this cave! Tonight let us tremble these halls of earth, steel, and stone! Let us be heard from red core to black sky. Tonight, let us make them remember. This is Zion! And we are not afraid!''....

...Most of you know this is a dialogue with Morpehus....I always that the Rave scene was stupid...I mean....why dance if 100 of machines are coming to kill you?...But if you read the words then you can see that Morpheus is telling the people to play music and dance...dance realy loud so the Machines can hear them...

..well that my explenation for why they are dancing. It is fairly simple so I guess you guys have already figured that out but still...dosn't hust to post this shite

Did this fit into the matrix story; a matter of taste

I can understand why the bros put it in there. It was supposed to show the big differences between man and machine, namely our animal longings, desires, and primative tribal rituals. Errgo the raw primative pratices of sex, dancing, and drumming that the machines could never understand nor participate. But c'mon really. It was so "Excalibur"eske. The "sex" (nudity)could have been done with a lot more taste. It was almost as if they did it because of peer presure (all the other movies are doing it) or becuase they just HAD to get that R rating. (Like Madonna in "Truth or Dare") It just didn't fit with the rest of the style of the movie. LESS IS MORE It's simply a matter of taste. What are your tastes?.

i thought the bros got it spot on.. as has been mentioned, the rave scene distinguishes the differences between man and machine.. doing something just for pleasure and enjoyment alone is not something inherent to machine behaviour who instead are governed by purpose.

the Neo/Trinity sex scene was a great contrast to that, demonstrating the purity of their love that differentiates them from the purely hedonistic approach. the fact that they are pictured under an arch is symbolic of this - arches are a symbol of divinity.. for example, most stained glass windows in churches (often depicting saints) are arch-shaped.

personally, when i first saw it in the cinema - the thought of it being too long never crossed my mind... the scene itself does have significance.. and i think a lot of people didn't appreciate that. what i don't understand is the people who say that Reloaded didn't develop the Matrix plot very much.. i mean.. c'mon.. it COMPLETELY altered everything we had understood about the matrix from the 1st movie.. how much more advancement can u have?

the Rave Dance- I found it rather insiteful into the state of life in Zion, and to the conditions, living arrangements, and co-dependency upon others who had to endour this "Way of Life" as it were.

the Love scene- While not in the top 20 best directied loves scenes,i felt it showed the more human aspects of the "One" and the feelings between Trinity and Neo, and just how deep the feelings were.

although i voted for both scenes being Ok, i think they are the least important in the film, especially neo and trinity having sex... we know they're in love, and there's no need to fill the film with them snogging and shagging! (although i expect keanu enjoyed it)

I liked the scenes. I thought it was a visual cool scene. I thought the dancing was shot well. The two scenes with the sex and dancing together was very erotic and arousing.

Actually, I didn't think that Neo and Trinity did finish doing their thing. I got the impression that Neo was so worked up over his visions that he simply went soft. The expression on both of their faces says concern to me rather than relief.

While Neo and Trinity were doing their thing they stopped thinking about the machines threatening Zion and all their other problems, and the second they finished their worrys and fears started to rise again as they were thinking that maybe love could not last because the machines had a good chance of destroying Zion.

The rave and sex had to do with fearlessness and as been said before, unity between the Zionites. So the scene works for me.

That was a look of great love and passion, not pain.

I think the sex scene was part of the story line. They just returned and haven't had time to be intimate. So they seized their moment. The rave scene, despite the nipples and beaver shot (DVD's are awesome), was superfluous.

The Rave Scene is integral to understanding the way Zion is and what life there is like. They have gatherings in the big caves, they're told important news, they act like they have a religion, it's called an opening prayer, and most importantly, you find out that they don't sit in their rooms and hide from the machines. They are afraid, but they live and breathe and feel. Just because it isn't strictly appropriate doesn't matter, they are humans and most of them wouldn't be far over 20, so what do you really expect?

The Sex Scene needed to happen. It had been lead up to for so long that it would have been a completely stupid move not to let is happen. The overlay between the two scenes lets the links between the two parts become clear, Zion people have hormones and they love each other, and so dod people with plugs! Sorry, important point to me.

Both were done in such a way that they stood out, and yet were inseperable. And the line between pleasure and pain in expressions is very slim, hence the flashback to the dream. Ever heard of 'good agony'? Well, Trinity showed it brilliantly.

These scenes show life beyond the battle, life after so many deaths, so few triumphs, so much pain. These scenes give an insight into the people that are forgotten for the thrills of action and battle wanted by the audience.
Every supporting role matters, every 'extra' is a character and they have a story. Just because the movie isn't focused around them doesn't mean it's not there. Let the characters live, let Trinity and Neo have some time to themselves that we don't see. They are only two people, just because they changed the world doesn't mean they have to be in every scene.

Everything by design, nothing by accident.

((By the way hey everyone I'm new ^^ you can call me Nicky 3Tooth ))

I dind't really like the scenes that much, but the sex scene was needed for Neo to have that flashback kindof thing to when he had that dream/premonition of Trinity.

Just because i'm human, doesn't mean i'm sane.
