I think Zion has never been destroyed. When the Achritect says this will be the fith time or sommot like that. I think he means i metophrically, as the humans are helpless and have plotted there owndownfall.

The people are what constitute the threat to the system, not the place itself. The machines destroy “Zion” (the people and what they stand for). Its not metaphorical, it actually happens, to prevent an “escalating probability of disaster.”

In Enter The Matrix, The Trainman shows up to tell Niobe "72 hours... that's exactly how long Zion lasted last time... 72 hours."
So it seems like a literal Zion that was destroyed in 72 hours.

how can they rebuild everything.. that just doesnt make sense it would take more than 500 years to rebuild zion..

The rebuilding is partly done by the machines and the group of rebels will be small in the beginning.

During another 100 years the people will grow exponentially by pairing and freeing.

Don't underestimate the power of a group of people with the same goal and bonding: as a sum they can achieve so much more as each individually.

neo is given the chioce to go through the other door and choose (if memory seves me correctly) 6 people to start a new zion in where everything will start all over

I belive the architect saying there were 5 predisesors is suggesting the other 5 chose that door and started zion again

it was neos love for trinity (which the architect stated the other 5 didnt posses) which pulled neo through the door he chose

he couldnt let her die but also couldnt let zion end so he found a way to save both, where the other 5 just cared for the existance of zion

I have often wonder about that, but once again you have made a point, it would be posibble that the machines would partly rebuild zion in preperation for the 23 freed human being unplugged form the matrix for the new cycle.

and that with there help, and the help of there offspring and any other unpluggees zion would be rebuilt. within 50 or so years in think.

Zion is not destroyed at all, and it is destroyed completly. The understanding of the word "destroy" depends on the understanding of the word "Zion". The second one could meen the walls of earth steel and stone, and so the Zion is not destroyed at all, or allmost at all, but if we understand Zion as a group of people it is destroyed completly.

the machines build zion, just like they did in the first place. The set guys who made zion said their are clues in it's design that point to having to be much older then the people living there think it is. It is not Zion so much that is destroyed as the people, which really represent zion anyway. So what damage they do to the infestrucure they simply repair for the new guys.
