Thing is, that scene grew and grew, starting with the humans having the upper hand and confident, putting up a good fight for some time, and then suddenly every person could see there was no hope when the ocean of orcs and trolls crashes through the city walls. Then they win the battle by a stroke of good luck, or fate, if you like. It's scenes like this which will hopefully prepare us to witness such battles in our own lives.

Hehe, cute, fellas. I guess we just don't see eye to eye on that one.

However, it's worth noticing all these movies come out recently of two ultimate powers battling for all the marbles. You're right, it's very much the same, but not out of chance or redundancy. Rather because it comes from the same visions, myths, scriptures, and ideals that've been passed down through history.

Actually, Marsoullis, I agree with you on this one. Capt. can call it cliché if he wants. But one interesting thing about memes is that they are often based on truth.

Armegeddon cometh! Hahaha.

Or, I know more than I have spoken about. Wink

EDIT: All these trilogies about similar things. Other people feel inevitability closing in on them too.

So you're the guy they based Matthew McConaughey's character in Frailty on! Damn that was some scarey schtuff! Whitelaugh

So what's the day? When's it happen? You've got the inside scoop, so spill it! Whitelaugh

I'm a church going Buddhist, so quoting passages from the Bible to me isn't going to convince me of much (other than that this cliche is so old it predates the invention of even the printing press let alone film).

Here's a quote from someone respected in my religion about the nature of man and myth which fits nicely with the conversation (and in some ways agrees with your and intell's points though it vastly disagrees with your literal take).

"Myth is not just an event of long ago. Rather, myth is another reality, one that we are facing right now. It is our everyday life. By realizing this and treating myth in this way, we are serving its true purpose." Seon Buddhist Monk Woncheol

The verses I cited answer what, as I understood it, you were trying Wink. Make no mistake though, I make no statement of any disrespect to you in citing Christian writ (I figured you might be of another religion). Meanwhile you sounded somewhat millenialist in saying:

So what's the day? When's it happen? You've got the inside scoop, so spill it!

I consider there to be a certain connection between all dogmas. What were you referring to, may I ask? What day did you mean? Or was it just some light mockery Smile?

We've lost me 3Tooth What are we talking about?

I was saying that I think that section of the trilogy (the siege) sucked because we've seen it way too many times done in basically the same way. Reinventing myth is one thing (and a great thing), recycling it wholesale is another. That's when it's a cliche.

As for the millenialist thing, that's the way intell sounded. "I know more than I have spoken about." What a load of hooey! As your Bible passages point out, intell knows about as much about the end of the world as any of the rest of us do. I was just poking fun at his attitude. Aaah, is there anything better than to post here and to drink something

edit: Oh, you edited your post while I was typing this one. Yep, light mockery it was Smile

If you're talking about WHEN, perhaps you are right. But assuming that this is what I meant means you didn't get even within hearing range of the point. Yep you said it - "lost".

You don't know me at all.

Edit: As for myths, have you considered why they resurface and are recycled so often? Popularity may be a factor. You tell a familiar story in an unfamiliar way and you're bound to sell. But there's a reason why it became familiar in the first place Wink

Well I was beginning to think you just liked the way it sounded. And the multiple meaning:

You know, when I came up with this internet name a long time ago, I didn't even know what moderators or forum posts were!

The name Captain PostModernism goes back to college. An ex-girlfriend back then wrote this story about me that was pretty non-complimentary. Instead of using my name though, she called me Captain PostModernism ('cause I'm always wearing t-shirts with superheroic logos on them and spouting pseudo-intellectual schtuff). The name kinda stuck with me though and my friends yankee-doodled it, it became my official nick-name. It's my all time favorite insult against me.

To make a long story short (too late), most sites won't let you type that long a name, so it got shortened to CaptPostMod when I started hanging out on the internet. The double meaning just popped up by coincidence.
