"The power of the one extends all the way back to the source."


This concept, perhaps referenced on this site, has MUCH religious underpinnings that requires YOU the viewer and reader to take a leap of faith on to grasp HOW neo did what he did.


In books titled "A cource in miracles" and "the disappearance of the universe," we are taught that we are God-like, because we are of God's world. We are his energy dispursed. Much like many little light bulbs, if 1 burns out, it is merely replaced, just like anybody else "plugged-in." Neo, being the 1, is an extension of the source. His power is such that his mind is so open he concentrates the power of the source into everything he is and does.

When he blows apart the cloned Smiths, he does so with the power of the source at his beck and call. He realized that:

1) He couldn't die because he wasn't alive to begin with. The matrix is a dream of a dream.

2) He couldn't fight Smith, anymore than we can fight our feats in life. When you give into the power of spirituality and a God-like fource, you truly become powerful. Belief makes it so.

3) Notice on the bed that he wasn't dead, merely that he returned to the source.


Through Neo's eyes, much like Jesus' eyes, he could see all the world for what it was and is. He saw the 'energy' and how we were only a part of the source, and not just an individual. This is how Neo became the one. He was one with the World. Which is what ONENESS implies. This is also a religious concept titled "non-dualism," meaning, we're all the same. Being of energy, you, and I, are no different.


Moments of clarity came upon me like waves upon a shore as I delved further into the books which form the foundation for the movies.

Though Neo's body dies in a sense to the Zionites, he is not dead. In fact, he is quite alive, because his energy and power have been fully connected to the source now. The machines, being of creation from man-kind are also part of the source, much like everything created on this planet. It's part of a symbiotic system that requires the existence of both life forms to exist.

The more Neo let go of his physical body and trusted in the source, the more his energy grew. The more his power and understanding within the world grew. On a scientific level, Zion may have been another form of control within the mind of the "plugged-in" people to stay connected. Having purportedly wrecked Zion 6 times, it seems fairly evident that the machines would have programmed in "zion" and the hero storyline to subdue people further into submission for their energy requirements. Since we all need something to belief, and hero stories work well with some romance and war, using this aspect of the human mind would "catch" those people who reject the system and keep them locked as if the Matrix StoryLine was a second level of defense for preventing anybody from awakening.


Neo however, was truly freed, because his spirit was released from the source. He dropped the idea that he was separate from the world and awakened. When he realized he was ONE with the world, he became ONE and reverted back to the source.


It may be a tough leap to take, but religion tells us that, regardless of our primary religion, a God exists of some kind, believing is the primary key. That said, God, being perfect, wouldn't create an imperfect world. It's illogical paradox. So it stands to reason that the world in fact was all a dream, or a test.


The Main Commander of the army is a perfect example of someone who is very heavy into dualism, believing there is separateness of mind/body from Spirit. There isn't. This is how Neo fights off the Sentinels. He is "plugged-in" into the power source, which is evermore evident when he falls into a coma after shocking the sentinels in real life. As he comes to realize he's merely an extension, or LIGHT BULB from the Source, he gains evermore power. The Longer Neo deferred believing, the harder it was to make changes. Once he gave into not only that he was the ONE, he gained power, immense Power, due to his alignment with REAL POWER, the ONLY power that could counteract the machines.

I think that the relation of religion to the Matrix story is that Jesus was a previous one. He could do anything he wanted in the world. He was sent to spread belief; give the option of choice, make people believe in the world they live in, make people believe in the matrix. Giving coppertops choice is Neo's purpose. The architect says that neo is supposed to go back into the matrix and spread his code.

The mero represents the devil because he was once the main prgram of the matrix. He was the reason why it failed. He is causality. That is why he is so pissed at the Oracle, she caused him to go into exile. She made the matrix more stable, thus making the Mero obsolete and forced to deletion. That is why there is the story of jesus and the devil. Mero, the devil, has tried to defeat all the previous ones and make them fail in reaching the source. This would make the Oracle, the one's guide to the source, obsolete and forced into deletion.

That is why the Mero says the fortune teller's time is up. Also why Seraph used to protect the Mero, because he was once the main program of the Matrix. But now he protects the Oracle, because she has become the main program of the Matrix. The matrix is more about the programs war against each other, than man vs. machine.

Neo's has the powers because he is both human and program. He has the ability to choose freely in the matrix and he has the ability to feel the machines. He is a sum. He has all the elements of both worlds, the real and the matrix. The matrix is just a program. The sentinals are just machines run by programs, they have no choice, so Neo can control them, stop them, because he himself is a program.

I preferred this interpretation from Soopaman and I thought I'd make a few comments.

I am not so keen on Ricky Avon's views because he tries to suggest that Neo could not die (which sounds like a Matrix-within-a-matrix theory) and denies that Neo is dead at the end - which is weird cause he looks pretty dead.

This is a very good interpretation. There is a definite feeling that the matrix is the world WE are living in.

I think it is worth noting that there is another person in the Judeo-Christian theology who is said to be the reason why creation "failed" - Adam. The contrast between Neo and the Merovingian seems to hark back to the contrast Paul draws between Adam and Christ.

Ever thought of the parallel here between Neo and Jesus. Jesus was said to be both man and God. Neo is both human and program. Even when Neo is fully seperated from his body we can see that he is still capable of functioning solely as a program. This does not mean that he is ever not human or not program - he is always both.

You're right about neo representing Jesus. That was made obvious by his death on an electronic cross in the last moive. And I'm sure just like Jesus he'll rise from the dead.


But I know the true source of the religious ideas for the movie.

And for other shows who used the same theme. Jesus like character dies, fights between two major oppsing forces in some secret war which all of humainity is caught up in without realizing it. It was used in Babylon5. It was used in the Final Conflict. It was used in Star Trek, Borg = machine God. It was used in the Epoch movies. It was used in marvel comics vs. dc war, Blue God vs. Blue God.

well... that was interesting, as far as conspiracy stories go. Personally, I'm always wary of all true believers.

I'm a metaphysic and i understood the Matrix and the reason of it since the frist movie. When i saw it i knew this would've been the best movies of all times in its kind.

And i've got people next to me telling me that Matrix is a piece of junk and that they never saw it cause of that. I've got a friend who is a doctor, and who studies then Man's Mind, and guess what he told me when i told him that if he wanted to see the Matrix with me, cause i was going to rent them all three to see them one and the other (how i always do). and he said "i don't wanna watch people flying and those little robots droping power beams and stupid crap). And i told him "you will regret those words when you see it, and i promise you this movie will make you understand a bit morea bout life".

He saw the movie with me and he didnt have words to tell me what he got of it, and he just said "that movie is really good, and it has so much sence."

Matrix reflects Metaphisic in so many ways. In the way of the Source, the Neo, the Matrix, Zion, Triniti, The pills, Smith, Everything...

In this paragrap, Fatpie went out of the subject, because you are talking about this like if you are just watching the movie, not understanding it. and what you say about himg being pretty dead. Neo did not die, he just became ONE with the Source. Look at it this way, i will compare it with the Truth of us, and the truth of the Universe:

God, Is EVERYTHING. God is not a person like you and me, he is not a giant, he is not a gilr, he is not an old man, he does not feel like us, we feel like him, he is one HE, he is EVERYTHING and EVERYTHING is HE. God, is the Source. We come from the Source, so we are the Source. You can find that in the Bible. Neo came from the Source which is EVERYTHING. God, is inside of us, and outside at the same time. God is EVERYWHERE, therefore HE IS. When i say HE IS, i mean he really is, and that's it. HE IS, those two words means EVERYTHING, and all in all the ways. God does not talk to you because God is not a person and he does not have a sense to talk, We have the senses IN him. HE is there just waiting for us to go back, back to the Source. Do not think of God like a person, He is all, all together. Imagine a Mass in which, well, Imagine the sea:

God is the Sea, and we are all drops of water, drops if the Sea. We are not God in all its ways, but we are part of him. Even thought the Sea is Extremelly big and we are just a tiny drop, we came out of the Sea and we have all the same attributes that the Sea has, cause we are the Sea.

Metaphysic is hard to understand and the way in which Religion has blocked the Man's mind today is so tight, that it becomes too hard to understand, and sometimes it causes problems, because the Humanity has grown with all the different religions and all their different ways of naming God and defining him. But noone knows the truth, because the truth was hidden, to prevent it from dissapearing (Mero and the Oracle) and nowadays the truth is still there but not disglosed to everyone, to prevent it from dispatching all over and cause trouble in the masses. The truth should be known as if it was by small drops. How Neo did it.

Now Smith is compared to a non-existent Being. [Satan]. Satan is the human's own creation. Smith was there but he wasn't, It's an alteration, not part of the Source, but part of the Man's Mind. An alteration, known as a Fear. Furthermore it would take advantage of the Man's weak but so powerful mind to become a true Bein himself, though not being it. That's why Smith could do all what he did, because it was the way Neo wanted it, until he knew what was going on. But since the first time, he always had fear, which is what blocks you from becoming strong in real life. And Faith and Fear are too different and don't go together, that's why if you have fear you cannot have faith, and if you have faith you must not have fear.

I don't have much time, so I'll make a few brief comments. Agent Smith represents Lucifer, the angel who rebeled against God -- became unplugged so to speak -- and then went out to destroy God's creation. The fights between Smith and Neo represent the conflict between Jesus and Luficer. When Neo sacricifices himself at the end of the trilogy he frees everyone from sin -- this is why they go back to their original selves. Before Jesus died on the cross people had no way to redeem themselves and were easily tempted by Lucifer. When Smith sticks his hand in another body (or program) it represents tempation and how easy it easy for him to corrupt them, like Lucifer corrupts souls.

Naturally, the death of Neo doesn't free all the people from the Matrix anymore than the death of Christ frees people from damnation -- only those who chose to believe in Christ are saved -- or in the movie freed.

The Merovingian and Persephone represent Adam and Eve. The Merovingian bloodline is supposedly the bloodline of Christ but the bloodline goes back before Christ, through David, and all the way back to Adam. The Oracle said that "he's been with us since the beginning," or something like that. Well, that would be Adam. So he was the first chosen one who was matched with Eve. Just as Eve's sexual interets were the source of Adam's problems, so Persephone's sexual interests caused the Merovingian's problems. She takes Neo to a bathroom and kisses him and then turns the Keymaker loose, causing the Merovingian to lose this most significant program. So the same themes in the Garden of Eden keep re-occuring between the Merovingian and Persephone.

It never happened. There never was a dropped-out-of-the-sky mean angel, there never was an Adan and never was an Eve, that is all nothing but fantasy. We did not came to this planet like that. That was all a complex process called Evolution. And matrix does not represent the Alpha evolution, it represents the Omega evultion. It does not represent how we started, but how we have to end. Being all part of the Source, which is our fate anyways, regardless of all the wars and all the deaths and all the crime and all the new childs borning and all the marriages and all the disturbs that happen on this planet. There never was an Hell. Hell is where we are right now. And the Heaven is not out there, the Heaven is inside us, and they are so many heavens, so no need to think of that....

Do you want a WORSE HELL that our own planet nowadays? I don't think you can ever find it. Our fate (which there is no fate, but what you want) is to become part of the Source, regardless of all the Smiths that come to prevent it. Neo became part of the source cause that is just The Beggining and the End. It's the true representation of us here on earth. So regardless of what you do, you will be part of the Source, believe me, noone goes to hell or heaven, and that one who is ready to go back to the source, that one just leaves this plane of life and becomes something else, another Neo.

There are so many things in life that you have to think of in order to understand the universe, and that is imposible cause the universe is ALL and it never ends. So you can't just learn the universe, you have to adapt yourself to it.

Don't let the religions fool you, and remeber that even the Bible was written by Men, not by God or angels, and Men always likes to count the history "their way"


and when the Oracle says "he's bein w us since the beggining" its not talkin about Adam, cause there is not Adam in the movie. It's talking about the Source, which is what Neo has been looking for. And He did Die cause of the people, but he also did it because he WANTED to go back to the Source, his time was coming.... and that whas his fate he decided.
