I just thought that some of you might be interested in a new movie coming out soon, that I saw a preview for when going to see Constantine. It's called A Scanner Darkly, based on a Philip K. Dick novel.

I forgot to mention that the film is animated but it looks extremely realistic. When I first saw the preview I thought it was some sort of a pre-quel or missing scenes from The Matrix, but it looks really good.

Not really a Philip Dick fanatic, but I have heard that Scanner Darkly is a pretty good book. How was Constatine? I want to go see it this weekend.

You know I really liked Constantine. It was twisted and Keanu's character had a real dry sense of humor. I think most people will like it.

That book is about a detective who is addicted to a drug that splits the mind, causing multiple personalities. The detective is tracking a murderer. There is a twist. See if you can guess it. It seemed pretty obvious to me; that's why I only read the back cover.

Hmm, the detective is the murderer? But doesn't know it, right?

Yep. Not tough to figure out, huh?
Dick's best works are his short stories. There's one really nice edition of "Selected Stories" that has most of the good ones, including "Paycheck," "Minority Report," and "We Can Remember it for You Wholesale." The Arnold film "Total Recall" was based on "We Can Remember...."

Just went to see A Scanner Darkly and loved it. It was surprisingly funny, and mostly as thought provoking as the novel (they added a little more decisive plot, but hey, Hollywood is Hollywood). Thumbup Smile
