In ETM, you get a pretty good idea of how vast the assimilation of inhabitants by Smith really is.
I think he has taken over everyone in the Matrix by the end of Reloaded, hence the lack of pedestrians.
Which leads to...if Sith is stopped or killed, will everyone in the Matrix die?
How will THAT be prevented?
I can't wait to find out!
