How do people have childs in the Matrix

If in the Matrix a couple has a child, I don't think that the child will be a program. The child must be a baby plugged in to the Matrix. But how can this be done? Is the baby a program until it is born?

There might be a program supervising the mating prosijure of the fetus humans. when the program sees they have mated, the program sents out doc-bots to collect the specific male's sperm and the specific female's egg, ferilite the egg with the sperm and then put the upcoming creation in a new pod.

The answer can answer another question:
Why don't the machines make the fetus humans impotents?

Another point may be that, sex and pregnacy are just simulations within the matrix, kind of like a cover story, so that the machines can implant a baby into the matrix.

I agree with Neo....that's exactly what I thought also.

I don't believe that is the case because that would mean that babies are just mass-produced which would result in every baby, thus every man, to be same. And, since self-residual image is more or less equal to one's actuall appearance, we see that it is not the case. So, if every baby has to be individual and unique, thare would hardly be point ic creating baby from random genetical material. And don't forget, Matrix is simulation of year 1999. (in first movie) with all information and science from that time, so don't you think it would be a little akward if people's offsprings had no comon characteristics with parents (based on genetics)? I don't think the machines needs the eggs or sperm from the adults. The probably create the DNA from a combination of the parrents, like nature itself. And put that creation in a pod.

I think the problem of a mass production of babies is simply solved. The babies which are created have a specific purpose. For example, when Neo's parents had him he was born with the purpose of being the one, although obviously his parents and himself didn't really know. Remember, since the matrix is controlled by the machines, within the matrix those people having babies are already designated a specific purpose, and those that don't have babies aren't supposed to in the first place.

The machines could easyly extract the DNA of any male and female placed in the power plant in order to create a baby.

Because if you remember what Morpheus said "We are no longer born, we are grown." that is what the fields are for so that they can mass produce babies. to place in the power plant when the time comes for it. Whitelaugh

There is no mentioning of Neo's parents in the movie, as well as no mentioning of anyone else's parents of who was born in the matrix...

Maybe all the fetuses have Smith's sperm (not sure if he has any?)
or Oracle's egg, or Architects DNA...

I know all the talk about them being programs, but theoretically they can modify DNA of individuals to achieve certain objectives...

I think you all are missing the point. Babies being born in the matrix? You're acting as if the machines have to compensate for the procreation people do in the matrix. There is no spoon. Nobody has babies in the matrix just like they don't eat. A baby would be as real to a couple as the minivan they drove. Or the jobs they worked. Babies are grown and implanted in where the machines see fit and their geneology is as fabricated as the rest of the pod people's are.

The matrix isn't real. How can you have babies? You can't. You're in a pod. You're not procreating. It isn't happenning.

The matrix has you...

Ok. Maybe I'm just dense. But, Bullet-Timer brought up the notion of residual self image, which means that the image of the babies in the Matrix has to match how they look in the real world.

While granted, no human is actually reproducing in the real world, it would seem that their Matrix selves would expect their babies to look a certain way (i.e, two black parents would be mighty shocked if they had an Asian child). So, to some extent, wouldn't the machines have to at least make sure that they plugged a baby into the Matrix of the correct race? Or with the correct genetic inheritence? And wouldn't the best way to do that to be to take DNA from the two individuals who thought they were having a baby in the Matrix? It seems to me that too many goof ups could destabilize the entire system.

in keeping with the theme of the equation being balanced, the matrix population control is very likely carefuly designed to allow the matrix population to reach a certain level, then maintain. physical and metal defects in the actual worl will be refelected in the matrix. a battery is still a batter crudly put. why some live, why some die, why there is suffereing is all part of the matrix, and a clever guise to compensate for malfunctions in the pod farms. if pod number 263529 is not producing enough juice, it is schedlued for disposal, hence the unfortunate accident that occurs in the matrix. there is a reason why a piano fell on the mans head...

Ha! So maybe your "soulmate" is really just the person of the opposite sex closest to your pod - makes it easier for the machines to cross-fertilize?

I still don't think you're getting it. Even if they did take your DNA and make a baby YOU'RE IN A FREAKIN' POD! How would you know what a baby in some other pod looks like. The matrix could tell you to see whatever it wants you to see. It could tell you you are blind and you would never even see the baby. It's not real. You're in a pod. It's all a lie. How do you know the baby that looks like you even exist? The matrix has you. Resist the control.

Yes. I understand that if you were in the Matrix you WOULD NOT actually ever see your real world offspring.

My point is that the Matrix doesn't "tell you what to see" when it comes to your self-image in the Matrix. Neo looks the same in or out of the Matrix. Trinity's real world self looks identical to her Matrix self. So, if the baby of a couple is not just a program, but actually the representation of a human in a pod, then that baby in the Matrix will look exactly as it does in the real world - creating a need to match up DNA. That's all I'm trying to say.

HOw do you know that your parents are your parents? How do you know it is you, you see in the mirror each morning. While yes it is true that you will never know what you look like until you are free. I often ponder on this tought myself.

But it is like i said in one of my previous post in this thread. I think that it is highly likely that the machines extract the DNA (sperm and egg) from one male and one femal in the power plant. It could also be that (like i also said earlier about sex being a simulation) the machince constantly moniter the matrix for people who have sex. I could be then that the choose a couple, to make the baby from.

But hey just a thought.

Obviously babies weren't well thought out in the matrix.

We see no pregnant women in the matrix. As questioned before, is pregnancy an image-alteration program running until the birth of the child?

In the "baby-pods" you can see that farmed humans are not plugged in at birth. Obviously the "real" connection between a family and their kid doesn't begin until the physical child is large enough to handle an adult pod.

Are "babies" also programs run by the matrix?

This is an inconsistency. Surely, the machines would know that the first 2 years of a child's life form the majority of its persona. They would know that 2 years in reality (surrounded by emotionless machines) followed by a sudden "plug in" would result in a society of sociopaths.

Doesn't make sense. Wasn't well thought-out.
