What's the deal with the number 101 ?

Guest

Has anyone noticed that the number of Neo's apartment in the first movie is the same as the floor number of the Merovingian’s restaurant in reloaded?

Is it supposed to have a meaning or is it just a coincidence?

Maybe 101 just looks good Wink , or is an allusion to binary code or the symmetric pattern of the matrix ... hmmm

(Please forgive any mistake, French is my primary language.)

@ MGT that is one(!) explanation, and a good one(arrggh) at that...however...
1 ~ in sacred numbers refer to the Beginning, The Alpha - from which all numbers follow
0 ~ refers to the end, the last and Omega
10 ~ Is both beginning and end, both Alpha and Omega..
So another twist and another theory....

It is impressive how the WBs have make all these discussions by giving Neo the number 101. It can mean anything, and probably does in a way, and will make people make connections the makers never even thought of.

I don't think there is one spesific meaning to it but I think they called it "Neo's number" in a online chat sometime. That makes the Merovingian 101 a sign to show Neo that he is on the right path, or the Merovingian is also a One. Has there been any other 101s in the other places Neo has been on his path given by the Oracle?

M1 - Room Trin is in
M1 - Number on the station platform/Neo Smith fight
M1 - Room where Smith is waiting & shoots Neo

The first and last are connected through the plotline of the movie, not by Trinity. Smith recognize the place and waits for Neo.

But what was so special for Trinity about the station platform scene that made them include her number?

Now there's a good question... Trinity has some explaining to do ?

I think you are looking at it wrong. The 303 room is the same room that trinity starts in and Neo is resurrected in. It represents the beginning and the end of the movie, and the beggnning and the end of Neo. Neo begins in 101. 101 X 3 is 303. Neo is a christ figure, and Jesus was ressurected after 3 days. NEo is ressurected a multiple of three from where he begins.
I have long thought about the 101 in reloaded. It has the effect that the enire movie has about any theory I had. It makes me wonder if I am completely wrong about how 101 is being used. Then again, perhaps we are just not seeing the 303 in reloaded. Or, perhaps the 303 is in revolutions and has just not appeared yet.

In 1984, Room 101 contains "the worst thing in the world". It is where Winston Smith is taken to be tortured with what is, for him, the worst thing in the world: rats.

The number 101 is prime (in base ten). It is the value of a number of interesting words and phrases from the Bible, such as "Vayhi Ken", meaning "and it was so," found repeatedly in Genesis 1.

Here's a link to entry 101 in my online Gematria Reference:

I still have not been totaly convinced by the explanations for the 101. Usualy the symbolism and connections in the matrix, such as the white cross at Neo's 'crucifixion,' or the number plates on the agent's car (beginning of reloaded 'IS 5416' - Isaiah Chapter 54, Verse 16 reads as follows: "Behold, I have created the SMITH that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy"). All of these connections have very specific refrences to religion etc. But the number 101 cannot be put down to one thing or another in certainty. Worst of all, the third movie didn't help. Anybody have Larry or Andy's phone number?

101 sometimes refers to classes at the beginning level. The first time we see Neo is in his room(101), when his computer starts talking to him. Maybe it's to show that he is about to learn something(like everything about the matrix).

Despite the fact that many others are correct also, i think that the significance to this reference in-particular is huge.

Try to remember that the Wachowski brothers had 'multiple' meanings when using symbols, especially names, they even said this themselves, but with 1984 the room is a torture chamber, and Thomas Anderson was in the same type of situation himself : his room was a torture chamber where all he could do that had any meaning was to search for Morpheus, and a way out of the room 101.

If you want to watch a sobering film then get hold of a copy of 1984 : one of the most reality shattering things i've ever seen in my life.

DON'T watch this as part of an good night in with your family/girlfriend/boyfriend/friends, you'll find that the atmosphere has darkened somewhat at the end if you do! Get it stoopid Whitelaugh

101 on The Merovingian's restaurant isn't the name of the restaurant. It's the number on the floor they're in. The name of the restaurant is "Le Vrai"

Unfortunately no one can be told what The Matrix is...You have to see it for yourself.

Room 101, like Floor 13, is often used in popular culture to give a sinister meaning to what would otherwise be an unremarkable room.

101 binary code, as in, what the entire Matrix world is made of.
The room Trinity is in at the start of M1 is the same room that Smith kills Neo at near the end.
101 is the level of the Merovingian's resturant.
101 is the highway number that the exit is off when the crew of the Neb are being chased by the twins.
And I'm sure there are many other 101 references throughout the movies. Same as the right turns in Reloaded, "everything is happening just as it did before..."

Everything by design, nothing by accident.

The path of the One ends when he choses the door on the right, leading to the salvation of makind and the reloading of the Matrix program.
In the first movie when Neo is running away from Agents at the end, most of the turns he takes are to the right, eg. when he steals the guy's phone to call Tank for an exit. Tank also say, "The door on your left", Neo makes the dash right, "No, your other left!" which is where the One soins and barges through the door on the left.
The door to the fight with Seraph is to the right, the door to the Oracle sitting on the bench is also to the right. Neo sits on the right of the Oracle.
The highway escape scene, the highway is 101 and to get to the exit Trinity must turn right to get to the on ramp. The Agents are almost always on the right of the car/motorbike when firing at the rebels, even though they are after the exiled program really.
Once the door has been opened to the passageway to get to the Source, the trio, th Keymaker, Morpheus and Neo, all turn right, closing the door behind them.
BUT when Neo chose the LEFT door and therefore to save Trinity, he leaves the building doing his "superman thing", heading left to escape the flames. He must also go left to catch the wounded Trinity, which he does. Trinty is on his right when he removes the bullet from her with his right hand, possibly he is now onto an alternate path the Ones before him didn't chose.
I hope that made the right turns clearer, if you look, there are lots of them. Don't put them down to coincidence either, "Everything by desgin, nothing by accident" is the directors code after all Cool
