»Fat people in the Matrix«

In any of the matrix movies has anyone noticed any fat people and if so, would they fit in the pod? Or do they have special fat pods for fat people? I know it sounds silly but it is a point I have often thought about when seeing Neo in his pod. Any ideas?

I would assume that the machines keep us properly nourished and would not allow us to get fat.

I don't think it has nothing to due with nourishment. The machines extract so much energy from human bodies that it is impossible for fat to settle in. Think of it as burning calories.

So by this theory, if a fat person in the 1st matrix rejects the program and wakes up to the 'Real World' they wake up a thin nicely trim person? Miracle weight loss people! Those pods are pretty huge..

I always wondered, did cipher feel full after he ate the red meat in M1 after the restaraunt scene. He didnt really comsume anything.
If you're in the matrix, unplugged, when u eat (or pretend to eat) the machines would feed you with the remains of the dead.
So, its possible that the machines feed you only when necessary, not when you decide to eat (choose to). As we all know, there is no choice. So to keep the illusion of choice, the matrix modifies your RSI (residual self image) according to your fake choice (of ice creams, mcdonalds, etc).
But also, its possible that the fat people die earier because they break the pod. After all, there's no real reason why fat people without any body movement would die in the pods. How is it different from skinny people.

aah, its all bullshit. but I wish I could wake up in the real world 10kg slimmer.

1 gram x 1000 = 1 kilogram x 1000 = 1 ton

I know this is off topic, but 90% of world use metrics. Also physic and engineering use metric. Only american use those inches-crap. Curious it is one of the few things they can sell us in the american-way-of-life.hehehe

I think ur forgetting residual self image... neo's matrix image had hair.. and his real body didnt..so i dont believe it's that much of a big deal for sum1 to have a fat matrix self image when infact theyre slim.. and bald.. ..... the program woul;d just alter your image in co-ordination with what your "apparent" nutrient/fat/etc intake was. based on studies of human anatomy

Funny, I was thinking about this fat thing a while back, but it the obvious fact that machines are regulating our food intake answered the question of being fat when emerging from the Matrix and because of the scarceness of resources of upon emerging it could be assumed that is why folks are still thin upon exiting, but consider if it wasn't so. Your mental projection is of a nice thin you and when you emerge you gain 100 lbs in the first 6 months.

If your from the U.S. you probably dont know what a "Robertson" style screwdriver is...

I guess the issue here is where does a person's "body image" come from in the matrix, and is it reflected in how they look within the matrix?

If the "real world" we get our body image (mostly) as a combination of how we actually appear, how others see us, and the dominant cultural worths of those. A person might be of average height and weight, but still consider themselves grossly overweight because they're influenced by their peers and reading material.

But wait, the image of a person in the matrix seems similar, but NOT the same as how they really are. Neo (and everybody else) is naked within their pods, yet he's clearly clothed in most scenes within. In Zion Neo is unkempt and ragged, but in the matrix he's slick and well groomed.

Why therefore, should a person's "apparent" weight in the matrix be related to their actual weight in real life? In fact there's no guarantee that any of their personal details be consistant. What if, when Neo had taken his pill, he'd awoken to find himself played by Johnny Depp instead of Kenu Reeves

The only solution is that a misrepresentation of your cocoon image takes place. In the cocoon you have atrophied muscles and are wellfed. In the Matrix there could be a mismatch.

And in fact there _IS_ already a mismatch, because Neo was thin in his coocoon but well trained in the Matrix (as was also the black athlete from Animatrix).

I have spotted a fat person in it, in the first film when Neo ends up in the street market and all the bullets flying around

there is a camera shot for some unknown reason, of a fat women wearing garish clothing and fake yellow wig staggering towards the camera covering her head trying to find cover as things get blown apart

I recon people in the matrix can get fat but thier real bodys don't its that simple...

If it is the case that you are only fat in the matrix... Morpheus gives you the choice between the blue cake and the red cake, naturally being fat you eat both??? They rescue you but you don't remember a thing. Or you only eat the Red cake, wake up thin in a pod, get flushed and rescued by Morpheus et al. You don't believe it when they put you back in the Matrix and you are really Fat again? Or is because your mind is free you pop back thin again. I don't think they would have much faith in you completing the jump program. Or would you go "I know Sumo" Morpheus replies "show me". In the dojo after a bit of Sumo you nip out for a quick bite to eat. Morpheus asks "Why are you stuffing your face, do you think that's cake your eating?" Would the agents find it easier to shoot you? Trinity exclaims "I've never seen anyone move like that" I would love to see a Fat Person doing bullet time triple jumping kicks. Sorry if it seems like I have something against fat people, I don't, it just seems funny to me how they would fit into The Matrix.
