Is there only one city in the matrix?

Akshat said that there was only one city (mega city) in the matrix, but certain information seems to contradict that:

1. There is an airport. Airports tend to have planes flying places.
2. The merovingian lives up in the mountains, 500 miles away from the city.

In Reloaded on one of the Architect's screens, i think there were other international places that all couldnt exist within one city in the simulated 'America'.

Nationalities exist in the Matrix coz that Indian guy in Revolutions refered to the 'French Man' aka The Merovingian . So if different nationalities exist so should different nations... right?

More obviously ....in Beyond, that story was clearly set in Japan and not America.

Different ethnicities doesn't necessarily mean that there are different countries/continents.

The Mega City is one giant city- bigger than any city we have ever imagined. Its the entire world of the Matrix. The mountains (like the Merovingian's) exist in one part, the downtown in another, the rainforest in another, the beach in another, the slums in another, the desert in yet another.

The international parts of the Architect shows are either:

1. Images of the human race before their enslavement in the Matrix.
2. Showing the parts of the Mega City where those people live. Example- Chinatown, Little Italy. This also explains Beyond.

This is no longer a theory anyway. It was a theory long ago (search for old threads). But now it has been confirmed as fact in the Revolutions extras. Just check the official Matrix Online website if you are not sure. The bull-like image shown in the opening credits of Revolutions is actually the map of the Mega City.

Some things that conflict with the mega city are:

1. In M1, there is a reference to heathrow airport.
2. Some of the comics have places such as London etc.

Explanations-

1. Error by Wachowskis. Perhaps they didn't know at the time that there would only be one city.
2. Interpretation by comic writers etc. Should not be taken seriously.

I thought the airport thing (shown in M1 and ETM) could be a flaw but then I thought that the City is so huge that there must be airports to get from one part to the other.

Wow, I didn't know this! What a total mind blow!

Its vice versa

If the Architect designed his most recent Matrices based on human history so they would accept it as real, then surely he designed it just like planet Earth with different continents divided into countries, cities, etc.

'cities that spanned hundreds of miles'

how can billions of people live in one mega city?

there may be many cities and the Mega City is only the largest.

where in the revolutions extras does it say there is only one city, and on the matrix online website, also, where is the map of the entire city?

Mega City London District, or Mega City Tokyo?

dude #1: I'm going on vacation.
dude #2: Where you goin?
dude #1: Hawaii District.
dude #2: Man, you should get out of the city more.
dude #3: We sure live in a BIG city.
dude #1,#2: Yep, we sure do.

I know it sounds ridiculous. And BigMista, I had the same feelings as what you just said when I first heard of the Mega City theory.

But think about how naive and irured the humans in the Matrix really are. We already know (hopefully) that they live in a stagnant, constant timeframe- the last 90s- the peak of their civilization. Why not live in an absolute space as well. It is the epitome of conformity I think and this is what the Wachowski's probably wanted to express (Agent training simulation program, M1).

Dont forget the Matrix Online is an official Matrix website-

Quote:

Having lived in the City for your entire life, you think you know it, but I assure you that just below the surface is a treacherous landscape.

Quote:

Set against the south shore of the river which bisects the City, the Slums are rife with criminal activity, urban decay, and random violence.

This is nonsense...

Smith (in M1) clearly says that billions of people live in the Matrix. Billions of people cannot be located at a single city.

Would the W-brothers make such errors? I think not. If this would be true then they never did plan for a trilogy when they made M1; then it was all a lie.

In Mega City resides the core network, so that is the place where the Oracle operates and where Neo is born. Neo was planted into the Matrix by the Architect, like Loki was planted in the Garden by God. Neo is a neccesary factor for the Matrix to function, so I think he was planted by the Architect. That's why the Architect also has recordings of his childhood.

I am sure that the rebels have other abandoned buildings throughout the world in other cities. But the story only focuses on finding and guiding the One, so we only get to see Mega City.

Also, the rebels are in need of the Oracle. And as we know, the Oracle resides in Mega City, so the main hideouts of the rebels are also residing there.

In the Animatrix we see some different places of the Matrix-world where other agents are operative, just like divided police districts.

And the reason they only talk about Mega City in "The Matrix Online" is because....well it's a game and they won't go too far with it Smile

Of Course There Isn't Only One City, Because The W. Bros. Trty To Tell Us That We Are Trapped In A Matrix & This Is Our Daylife... So Tell Me Now Do We All Live In One City Called Mega City? No, You Are American, That Guy Is Canadian, Your Chit Chat Girlfriend Is Italian, Osama Bin Laden Is Saudi, Helter Was German... & So On. We All Have Our Nationalities And We All Live In Diffrent Countries. Besides, Morpheus Told Neo that "This Is Chicago" Or Something We They Both Were In The Blank White Space, & In The Scene Where Neo Was Linked To All Those Wires In The Old Building In Order TO Free From The Matrix, Cypher Told Him Something Like "Kansas Is Saying Bye Bye"

The Matrix Has You...

All of you...except A.G. and those with him.... are idiots. He told you where to find it, on the Rev. DVD. Try this. Watch the MxO feature. It explains that the Matrix is in fact one huge city. Watch M1. Same thing. The Second Renaissance 1 & 2. Same freakin' thing.

I do not consider the 'making of' trustworthy when it comes to such things. Mostly this is just a commercial documentary where actors and designers are talking about their work. Offcourse the Matrix in the films is one huge city; they cannot show you everything because Mega City is where they focus on and where they shot footage in Australia.

Do you know how many people billions are? It will never fit in that city, get real! And you will need lots of places where you can get supplies like deserts for oil and places with mines.

So either there is more than Mega City or the brothers have fucked it up.

So do you-A.G- recokn that Mega city is some sorta univirse or galaxy? because I told you so did Mobil Ave. But I think that it's not just that "billions can't live in only one city", but because they based it on human history, which as I believe doesn't include the whole world living in one city (except if you count that people now live in what is so called a small village coz of technology!). Anyway... to be more rational, they won't be able to control a city that holds billions of people, so they're definitely gonna build countries, and give their "sub-control" to some programs that we call so "presidents", you know... for better control...(Doesn't it make sense? George W. Bush is one of them Notagain Whitelaugh Whitelaugh Shocked )

PS. remeber what I said About Chicago, and policemens' uniforms in the beginning of Matrix1, which I don't remeber very well right now, but I think they belong to NYPD.

Whether something is a 'City' or a 'Country' or whatever is simply defined by a boundary that some people have agreed on (or more usually, fought over).

The USA would be one city if Mr President decided to rename it as such. Yes it would have mountains, and rivers and deserts, but if it was called Mega City, then a city it is.

So the W's have decided that their Mega City is big enough to house the whole world. Thats up to them isn't it?

Lol, this is a HUGE flaw! If the Architect designed his Matrices based on 'human history' then one HUGE Mega City is a total blow to his design!

Also, the Merovingian has sampled every LANGUAGE. Ahhahahahahahaha.

Remember in the first Matrix when Morpheus and Neo are in the white loading program and Mopheus turns on the TV and it shows AN AMERICAN CITY?

Morpheus said "This is the world before the Matrix" or something like that.

THAT WAS JUST ONE CITY IDIOTS.

That wasn't a 'Mega City' that had progressed before the Matrix came into effect.

Think people! I am teaching you things!

While I understand your anger on my previous comments, I must say that I will no longer subject myself to your unbelievably low level of control over yourself consisting of your empty 2-bit comebacks, repetitive use of foul language, and with your every rebutting post insulting the intelligence of not only yourself, but that of every member of this forum who has had to deal with your childish anger management problems.

Do you understand that, or must I unnecessarily alter every word over two syllables in order for you to comprehend exactly what I mean?

I've lost it. Sometimes I lose it. I can't help it. But please do not try to eclipse me from this forum when I am not even insulting anyone's intelligence or breaking any rules. I think we both need to calm down, and I've done my half. How about you do yours?

Languages can exist without countries, y'know... Take Tolkein Elvish - perfectly reasonable, working language, with no country to speak of. After all, countries have official languages, not the other way around.

I must admit I'm reluctant to believe it, although I'll have to research those points. We're lead to believe that 'this' Matrix is based on the year 1999 - i.e. twentieth centuary technology, etc etc.

The argument that billions of people can't fit into one city is a little flat, in my humble opinion. It's like saying a billion peas cannot fit into a jar.

Also, are we talking an American billion, or an English billion? Smile
