The Chessman

The Chessman is a mysterious figure. No one recalls how long he has been coming to the park to play chess, yet I can find no one who recalls a time when he was not there. Like Tick Tock, who I shall discuss in the due course of later conversations, the Chessman may well predate this iteration of the Matrix. Many exiles--more than we had believed prior to the truce--have discovered ways to shelter themselves during the system reintegration that occurs during a reset of the Matrix. Some of them may be very old, and very dangerous.
The Chessman firmly believes that the progress of his chess game is a direct reflection of the ongoing computation processes of the Matrix. He searches for insights through the combinations of moves. Anecdotal evidence indicates that he can sometimes predict events--such as the spawning of a new data node--in this fashion, though he is unable to elucidate upon the process he uses.

The Chessman can be found in Tabor Park's namesake open space, and has been known to offer tasks to redpills who visit him. However, I would advise you to be wary of any exile who seeks to employ you. Their capricious and eccentric natures are well known, and they do not place the same value on human life as we do.

well obviously somebody who is a master at a game as complicated as chess is also a master strategician and would be extremely manipulative and not to be trusted.

The important information that I get from this text, is that exiles are not supposed to survive the reload, wich somehow clarifies the "I have survived your predecessors".

Normally, the reload has nothing to do with the exiles, except if (once again) we admit that the anomaly is linked to the exiles, wich brings us again at the theory "programs = brainwashed humans".

This is what I currently think:

The exiles who allign themselves with the Merovingian (the smart ones will) will obviously survive the system reset because the Architect allows this to occur (discussed several times).

The exiles who do not allign themselves with Merv will be susceptible to deletion during the system reset. Does that make sense speaking systemically?

According to the new info, apparantly some exiles have found other ways of sheltering themselves, like the Chessman. We assume the Chessman does not work for the Merovingian. Seraph would probably also be in this category.

Thoughts?

i think that these matrixonline posts should probably go into the 'playing matrix games' forum.

one way to survive a 'reload' of the matrix would be to go someplace you know cannot or will not be affected by the 'reload'

if alligned with the merovingian, maybe his chateau or hel club is protected somehow, or perhaps they wait in mobile ave for a little while.

perhaps the 'hallway' is a place to hide if you have a key

maybe there is a 'code' that one has to enable them to survive a 'reload', if Seraph and Sati were supposedly exiles, wouldn't they have been deleted at the end of Revolutions? this code could be in anything from a ring, to a tie or a pair of boots, assuming more exiles can write programs like the merovingians cake, then this could be possible.

also on programming clothes, in MxO you can program clothes with different attributes, which leads me to 'Why doesn't someone write a bulletproof cotton shirt in the matrix'?

on surviving the 'reload', how do they know when it is about to happen? because the One is found? or 'signs' or something else?

Esc, When the keymaker arrives, they know that the reload is imminent.

In Mxo, they say that there is a very strange place called blackwood that only Merv and very few programs can access. Maybe that's the place where Merv go to hide ?

More info on the blackwood :

By arrives I think he means mentioned or seen. That was a sign that the end was coming, they found the Keymaker. It seems he too had a gift of vision like the Oracle yet in EtM he proved he wasn't very good at it.... LOL

KM: I'm sorry. I could not forsee that our paths were not meant to cross yet. (After the hell he put them through....)
