[Matrix Revolutions] Bane/Smith: "I admit, it is difficult to think, encased in this rotting piece of meat. The stink of it filling every breath, a suffocating cloud you can't escape. [spits blood] Disgusting! Look at how pathetically fragile it is. Nothing this weak is meant to survive."

Furthermore, we shouldnt consider the Matrix, and our slavery 'revenge'. These are logical machines that dont suffer the power of emotion for the most part. Though, we do see 'revenge', as in the balancing of suffering.
In 2ndR part one, there are some really dark scenes. One that particluarly springs to mind - we see that female robot practically torn apart and shot. How incredibly bad does that make one feel? We can think of the 2ndR's as 2 sides of the story, or two halves of a balance. In 2ndR part 2, the scenes of humans suffering so badly equalls the emotion we feel for the machines in part one.
Back to the point, the machines are not bad! Our refusal to accept the fact that we were now equalled, and surpassed in intelligence was ultimately our downfall. Remember that the first matrix was perfect. Agents were represented as angels whose full purpose within the matrix was simply to feel love for humanity.
As we know, humanity refused perfection (its only human to make mistakes - or be inperfect), and so the machines were forced to redesign the matrix, having to sacrifice paradice. A known problem of course with the new matrix was rebellion. Simply, the machines were forced to use this system involving killing in order to keep the matrix going.
