When you actually look at it from another perspective, it can be observed that in fact the rebels are the ones that cause all the mayhem and strife between the two races. The machines simply wanted to be free from the abuse and overuse of the humans so they wanted to have "free will". But no, the goddamn humans had to go and block out the sun, thus forcing the machines to create the matrix so that it would be a win-win situation. The machines get their source of energy while the humans live in a semi-perfect virtual reality. No harm done. But NO that still wasn't enough, they had to rebel against this system and cause senseless bloodshed, because they are almost completely no match to the machines in tactical abilities and firepower, not to mention in numbers! So its quite ironic in fact that its the humans fault that the matrix was created in the first place. Screwy

Yes, the Animatrix does kind of explain the whole underlying point of the war....

Although, to take the initial question one step on....

We start off with M1 following the story from the perspective of Neo, Morpheus etc and their battle againts the machines (perceived as baddies).

In the Animatrix we learn to emote with the machines and see their point of view.

From then on its all about ending the war. We see this from the point of view of the unplugged humans, and are guided to root for them to save Zion, but have a better idea of the enemy and its motives.

But the vast majority of Earth's inhabitants hardly get a mention...

To the humans that are happily plugged into the Matrix, Morpheus and the gang are nothing more than terrorists - breaking into buildings, slaying innocent security guards, causing highway chaos etc etc.

Run the whole story through your mind from the point of view of a regular guy on the street, who is happy to accept the matrix as real and is simply going about his business. Maybe he's the guy who gets his mobile phone stolen...maybe the wife of one of the security guards in M1...a family who have their car totalled on the highway? Compare that to our own lives - the stuff you see on the news every day.

Make you think doesn't it?

So what you're trying to say is that Morph, Neo, Trin and the whole gang are a couple of terrorist? 3Tooth

Well if you watch the beginning of m1 where neo is running the search on his computer, if you look at what's on the screen it'll talk about morpheus being chased around and him being called a terrorist.

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. Nelson Mandella and Muhatma Ghandi were both once called terrorists.

After the demonisation of the machines in the first movie, we realise by M3 that both sides have more in common than we might have believed. In fact, neither is shown to be entirely good at all!

From the point of view of the security guard with six bullet holes in his chest - YES!

BaDboYDC_101

Its all a matter of perspective.

"Sacrifices must be made for the greater good"

-Both the humans and the machines must compromise to try and achieve their goals. But in essence, the humans brought the problem upon themselves. Think of it this way, if you were a machine, what would you do?

Must someone pay for the sins of their parents? The humans were being kept in captivity and rightly fought against their slavery. The machines had found themselves in a position where they could only survive if the humans were kept in captivity and naturally fought to survive.

You can't really blame either of them!

No, we can't blame them. But they're not really terrorist, they're freedom-fighters. Cool

Thats the point- Terrorist and Freedom-Fighter are the same thing! The difference is in the perspective.

Aah, but the interesting point is that from the plugged-in folk, who have no idea about the matrix or the war, all they see is the terrorism.

Imagine if, in our world, it turned out that the evil we see every day on the news were actually by-products of a greater war that we know nothing about?

what is ironic about the entire mission of the rebels is that they have to sacrifice what they are trying to save: their humanity.

So in the end, after they have killed countless humans connected to the matrix, is it really worth it? The rebels call the machines inhumane monsters. but these "monsters" are the ones that are giving life to humans. The rebel "heroes" are the ones who bring death. Whatthe

That is one of the many flaws in the human species, they are unbelievably selfish and have blind purposes that they try so pointlessly to accomplish.*scoff**straightens tie* Cool

That is exactly the point of the movies Neo brings Peace AND choice.
remember what the oracle said to the architect "...what about the others" "...what others?" "..the ones that want out" "Obviously they will be free"
Neo has choice because he is aware of the two worlds

I agree! Take a look at my signature I have had for a good while.

The humans have indeed caused alot of problems. The machines were being nice and wanted to be friends with the human race but no no...we had to screw it up. Neo probably was the only one that I would consider 'good'. The Agents and Machine operatives are the 'real' good guys! *does little dance* Cool If there is to be true peace than the humans and machines need to try to understand and love each other.

Rebel: I am trying to save the human race!

Me:People like YOU are the ones who started this mess. Ever watch the Animatrix?

Rebel:What?
