why does the oracle not tell neo that he is the one when he obviosly is?
she never really says anything, she just asks questions and the audience nods thier heads at neos interpreted answers.

also, how did morpeus and the gang come to the conclusion that neo was the one? why not the lady who directed the agents to mr. anderson's desk in M1?

A) She makes riddles for him to solve to prove to himself and her that he really is The One. The whole plot is based on the adventure of The One. Without it, there would be no movie. The path of The One is planned by The Oracle and The Architect. The same plot has happened before, and the Oracle likes to see how vague she can get before the whole plan fail.

B) They found Neo because of his hacking skills. They found Trinity because of her hacking the IRS Databse. I guess they monitor certain chat rooms and email accounts for evidence of people who are free minded enough to validate as a candidate.

Obviously, one must be a top hacker to be considered "resistance fighter material." But I think the question The Other One was asking was not "Why did they pick Neo" but "Why did they believe that Neo was The One? What distinguished him from the others?" That is something I would also like to know. Perhaps something in the code that Morpheus read??

I'm not really sure what you're asking, The Other One, about the girl at the front desk. I'm pretty sure the Agents asked her where Thomas Anderson was and she knew where the cubicle was.

She tells what is true. Sometimes so true it hurts, is hard to believe, or seems impossible.


Neo: "I'm not the One?"

Oracle: "Nope. Ya got the gift, but it looks like you're waiting for something."

N: "For what?"

O: "Another life maybe, who knows?"

She says this because right then and there he is NOT the One. He is the one who will become the One, but nobody asked that did they?

Neo is not THE ONE at that precise moment in time because he doesn't believe it himself ~ Remember~ Being THE ONE is like being in love, no one can tell you that you're in love, YOU JUST KNOW IT.
The Oracle could not tell NEO that he is the ONE she was just a guide to help him on his way "KNOW THYSELF"....

Yes, I knew that about him being potentially The One but never The One until the final fight scene in the Heart O' The City Hotel.

Question is, why did Morpheus believe that it was Neo? How did he know that Neo had the potential? It's not like Neo's the only computer hacker out there. In the shooting script, Morpheus said that he simply picked random people thinking that they were The One. Turns out that none of the random people were The One and they all died. What makes Neo different from them that Morpheus could see?

The reason Thomas Anderson is The One is beacuse he is one of the original developers of the Metacortex VR game that is the prototype of the matrix we see in the movies. He is also a very skilled hacker and lives a lonly life.

The question is still how Morpheus found him. Maybe has discovered that the VR game by Metacortex is the root of all his evil, and by finding a person with the required lifestyle and qualities working at that company just had to be The One?

Maybe the Oracle gave him some vague clues we haven't heard, which would eventually lead him to Metacortex.

I checked out metacortechs.com. Don't remember seeing anything about a VR game there. What was it?

Thomas A. Anderson was a computer programmer, we know this for sure.
It was never mentioned in the M1 if he was involved in any specific game progamming.
The Metacortex site is a completely separate entity - It has absolutely nothing to do with the Matrix storyline.... I think we should really concentrate on the movies, Animatrix and Enter the Matrix... Our brains are suffering from a major overload already!!!!!!!
