I have been thinking about the matrix theory a lot lately. I have a lot of questions, but i was wondering if anyone had any of their own real stories or encounters with the matrix? If so, post them on here please. I need to know if im crazy or not, because i kind of belive the theory... ----agent-d

While I've always wondered whether the world is real and I believe that there is no physical world, only perception of one, I can't say I've had any Matrix-like experiences.

Yay! A Berkelian idealist!

Berkeley said there is no such thing as what philosophers would describe as 'matter'. All that exists is observations. Nothing can exist without a form of observation. (Strangely enough, some Quantum Physicists take this view very seriously)

And all this time I thought I developed this view myself.

There is no objective reality. We all see everything how our minds decide to show us. It becomes 'real' because you beleive it.
A simple example:
When you say something is red and someone agrees, how do you know they are seeing the same colour?
They could be seeing something you would call blue or green but to them it is red.

so it's sort of a "if a tree falls in a forest and nobody is around to hear it, did it make a sound?" kind of thing.

Sometimes I get the feeling that I'm someone else than who I see in the mirror or something.

How can we be sure that there is an object?

All ours eyes see are images how can we be sure that it is not computer similate i.e WE ARE LIVING IN THE MATRIX Shocked

The brain can be manipulated to believe things, how do we know that there is a spoon. Because we can feel it and smell it, and hear it and detect it with our senses etc. I beg 2 differ. The matrix can be telling our brains all these things. Next time you go outside observe your surroundings, look at the news tell me what you notice, i cannot tell you because "Unfortunately you cannot be told what the matrix is"

When you have finished observing tell me your analysis. Dont dismiss me as some idiot.

Sort of, yeah!

Berkeley would say that God saw it so it did make a sound. God upholds all things in existence by perceiving them.

Some prefer to simply say that all things are 'potential objects of perception' instead.

bullet-time, maybe you could tell your story.

in Carlos Castaneda's books, don Juan said that the world is a 'description' and we've had this world described to us since we were born and so we percieve it to be this way or that. what Morpheus or Neo does is use the 'Sorcerors' description of the world which enables them to do what they do in the matrix.

don Juan also said that we, people, are unlike other creatures in relation to viewing the world because we "take the cream off the top" that is, we take only that which we find appealing, whatever it may be, and leave the rest, so we don't see everything that there is.

everything observing itself

all these scientists an people like them, the people who write the books an the people who make the theroys... what if some where along there line of thinking and working out they got it wrong.

space my not be the final fronteir
dreams could be real
up could be down

this really gets to me alot because how can anyone be sure who is right!

the matrix was made to open our minds

deja vu is not what you think it is. its really quite simple to explain. Its when there is a delay of time so small that it feels like you saw something before you did. cause you did. your left eye probably saw it first then .0006 seconds later your right eye saw it and yuour brain interprets it as something youve seen before. so its actually a simple answer

Now that's an interesting theory. Thumbup

I been noticing lately that certain details of my dreams have been finding their way into my "real life." Strange.

How would YOU be able to tell the difference between the dream world...and the real world?

One thing i have learned from experience is that your senses can be easily manipulated or they can easily misjudge things. You might want to Believe something so bad that your mind will start to decive you. For example, some or most matrix fanatics really and truly belive that they are living in a matrix so they start to notice things that they normal wouldnt. Why? Because they want to Believe it so bad that their mind looks at things from a different perspective, resulting in abnormal activites. i.e Deja-vu or dreams coming true etc etc.
