EMTs on Ships..but not on Dock?

Here's a rather simple solution to attacks on Zion...

People of Zion saw fit to have the EMT device on board their ships, which didnt "Kill" the ship, so to speak. Why didn't they install one in Zion on the Dock? They clearly have the technology and could have protected their sensitive equipment similar to the way the ships are protected.

Clearly these people are not forward thinkers and are destined to the same fate as the Neanderthal.

EMT, Do you mean EMP?
If so. The very nature of the EMP is that it shorts out all electrical devices. It would be impossible or atleast out of the reach of the humans to create one that didnt short out their ships.
If you dont believe me, get a strong magnet and place it against your moniter now.

So why don't the EMPs (electro-magnetic pulse?) short out the ships?

--I'll pass on the magnet to MY computer...thanks.

OK. You got me

When the Neb. used the EMP at the end of M1, they managed to get back to Zion with the ship intact. If they KNOW the EMP is going to be used, they can prepare for it by shutting down other ship functions prior to, presumably. Right?

And if this is a fact, then they also could shut down vital functions, machines prior to using the EMP on the dock.

True, but then only one emp could be used by one ship, It would destroy the emp's of the surrounding ships.
It aldo takes hours for the ship to work again.
Nice avatar btw. I just realised, that could be the geekyest chat up line ever.

AAARRRRHH! how do ppl not know this already! no offence. first, if an EMP was used in zion, which it was in rev., it WILL short circuit everything in the blast radious, which in zion is a BIG radious. It doesnt matter if the surrounding machines are on or off, they would still short circuit (and in zion they NEED their machines and other important stuff up and running, or else they wouldnt have a good defence, or communication, so they couldnt just shut everything down or off)

If the name is supposed to be the alternative name for the demiurge in Gnosticism then it should actually be spelt YaldaBAoth.

I always thought that Yaldabaoth was pronounced -

YAL - DA - BAY - OTH

I could be wrong though

Sorry to have aggrivated you with my simple mind.

Is this not the forum where we should be able to ask such questions?

A perfect example of the ships being shorted out by the EMP is the Logos in M3. At the end of ETM we were shown how they got there - they used the EMP. Afterwards they needed to be charged up again.

How would they charge up the dock after EMP had rendered it useless? They wouldn't be able to.

Can't things just be switched off? Or a batery of some kind?

I bet you, if people put their minds together, some sort of think could be thought out to use a emp( Or EMT or what ever)

Give me a spanner and half an hour and i'll have zion machine ressitant for 3 years garented (JOKE)...

Ok turn your computer off and THEN pass a magnet over it. If we don't hear from you we'll know that turning it off doesn't help. (Or maybe someone who knows about this stuff can fill us in).

If they turned off all the computers in Zion they would also have to turn off the mechs, it's not certain that the huge gun turret would still work and it would take forever to reboot the system. If there's no power what would they use to turn on the EMP?

I suppose Niobe, Morpheus and the other captain dude completely forgot that their EMP would blow out the dock, but hey, it made good cinema ¬_¬

Although on the other hand, I guess they didn't want to sit about doing nothing while Zion burned.

They really had no other choice. They would've been dead and then Lock would've still been pissed. He just needs to get his undies out of a bundle. He gets annoying after a while....

At first I thought he was just mad at Morpheus, but then I discover he's on some complete power trip. But i laughed my ass of after Morpheus proved him wrong. His face was priceless.

The reason why Zion was never attacked is because it is hidden so deep in the Earth's core. They put EMPs in all the tunnels leading to Zion that wasn't at broadcast level.

The people of Zion expected an invasion to come through one of the tunnels. They even mentioned their EMP defense lines in the Final Flight of the Osiris.

I guess Zion never expected the machines to actually "drill" into Zion.

They probably thought, if the machines found someway to get through all their EMP defenses AND the ships' EMPs, THEN they would rely on Mifune's cyborg army.

Not the other way around, with Mifune's army fighting first, then waiting for the ships to come.

sorry i didn't explain it enough last time right a emp (NOT EMT) shorts out every piece of electrical hardware on or off and there is no way to stop that the hardware tha needs some time before it can be used again which was too long for zion thats why all the sentinels in the machine city come to zion (that is explained in the movie i don't understand how you missed that.)

right also they would have used ships (they actually did but it was away from zion) a EMP was let off way by bane which caused all the ships to lose their power=death by sentinels so thats why their were no ships at the dock and why they had to used the marjuines robot squad (which weren't built for fighting in battle A.K.A they need to be reloaded they were originally used as defence purposes when ships entered the dock and for lazy people who can't be shited enough to walk around on their feet.

You can't really blame the poor man. He's in charge of Zion's defence and seems to go frequently go toe-to-toe with his girlfriend's ex... he tries, but he isn't too good at seperating his personal feelings from business, as we see in ETM when he talks the council into keeping the Logos from the front lines.

And I'd imagine it's hard to be an atheist amongst a city of Believers.
