Modern Version of a Very Old Symbol

The apple inside a rose was used by the Rosicrucians in the 17th Century, and seems to have been a symbol used in the 4th Century with sects associated with John the Baptist and Mary Magdalene.
From fragmentary evidence in Nag Hammadi find - the fruit inside a budding flower was used as a symbol of the Gnostics in the mystic rite (mystagogia) of the ceremony of the bridal chamber or 'spiritual marriage'.
The fruit inside the flower was also used in the Egyptian Mystery Schools.
This symbol (fruit inside flower) seems to have been placed on top of the prevailing religious symbol of the day throughout history.

DA VINCI CODE!

I've forgotten the actual text, but there's a theory linking to the Merovingian's name. Concerning the Holy Grail...?

Basically, Mary Magdaline is associated with the 5-petalled rose, which evolved from the 5-pointed star, being a symbol for the Goddess, or feminine nature of the world.

Christ is supposed to have married Magdaline, but this was squashed when the Roman church decided to make Christ divine.

She fled into exile in France, where her bloodline took the name of Merovingian.

On and on the rain will see
How fragile we are. How fragile we are.

Someone else on a pagan board mentioned how Gnosism (sp? sorry) is directly linked to symbolism in the Matrix, and mentioned the Davinci Code. Now Im going to HAVE to read it. Good post! Thumbup

This is not an apple, but a strawberry. You can tell by looking at the seeds.

Gosh. I think this is an important find.

Hello everybody!

Since I am new to this Forum, and since I am not quite used to write in English at all (because I am not a native speaker), I hope you can forgive me for any mistakes done... Neutral

I just saw this toppic when I was looking for this IS5416-Quote, and I though, seeing that I started a few day before a research on the Lotus-symbolism, I could add my 50 testicles.

The Lotus-flower is in Buddhistic Religion a symbol for the PURITY and UNION of mind, speech and body...

The pentagram (that is what we call this perfect 5-pointed star in German) is, as Comet mentioned, a symbol for the feminine nature of the world. Christian religion links feminism (?) to Holy Mary, which was linked to PURITY.
This pentagram is linked to feminism because a greek Godness whose name I forgot, who is a symbol for feminism is linked to a planet (the name of which is the same as of the Godness, so I neither know its). This planet (I think Mercur) signs over a cycle of eight Years (again, I am not quite sure) due its eliptic orbit 5 points around the sun, each of which is exactly as far away form the other as the others are (Hope you understand what I mean). They build a pentagon or a pentagram...
This pentagram is nowadays a symbol in many occult sects for the UNITY of mind, water, fire, air and soil...

(Next time I got to take more time to structure and research on my posts - please excuse)

I think the planet you're talking about is Venus, aka the Godess of Love. And I know that the reference to five points, and the lotus are used a lot in The DaVinci Code.

Just to clarify, a quince is a specific type of red apple, one with five sections (and five seeds) on each side when you dissect it.
The image of the cross being in both Club Hel and in Zion as a window motif could hint that Club Hel is like the Zion for Exiles, and the Merovingian is the Exile analogue of Neo or the One. That could explain the imagery and the name. Also, the Merovingian and Neo are diametrically opposed ideologically, which is further represented in their associated imagery and symbolism being both related and reversed. While they wear similar clothing and both are associated with a round, red object that represents forbidden knowledge, Zion's council chamber looks like a cathedral mixed with a college auditorium, while Club Hel looks like the LaVeyan Satanic ritual chambers that you see on television documentaries mixed with, obviously, a nightclub. LaVeyan Satanism in particular implements rituals that mirror Catholic rituals, so that's another example of similar yet reversed symbolism, and colleges and nightclubs go together pretty well Whitelaugh . Note also that Zion is the name of a holy place or a heaven in certain Abrahamic religious groups, while Hel is obviously Hell in the same traditions.
As for the white rose, it can represent innocence and purity, which contrasts with the rest of the imagery in that scene. Alternatively, it can refer to a World War II resistance group. It has since come to mean any peaceful resistance group. As for the idea that the white rose is actually a white lotus, that would represent enlightenment, an important theme in the film. Alternatively, it could refer to a legendary martial arts society that opposed the Mongol rule of China. It later reemerged in opposition to the Qing dynasty, which was also a dynasty of foreigners ruling China, although this time they were the Manchus. This was, in turn, the legendary beginning of the Chinese Triads, a loose confederate of criminal organizations similar to the Mafia.
Does that help?

I looked up the White Rose on Wikipedia just now (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Rose) and learned that there was a group called the White Rose during World War II who opposed Hitler and the Nazi regime. Could this perhaps be what is being hinted at--the Merovingian's (and by extension the Exiles) opposition to the Machines' regime?
