Best anime, manga, cartoons

I guess I have three questions here:

1. What are your favourite anime and manga?

2. Have you seen any anime (read any manga) which links to the matrix?

3. If they made a matrix cartoon (someone suggested that they might do that in another thread) how would you want it to look?

Here are my ideas on this:

1. I have recently started reading the X manga which are vastly superior to the anime movie of "X" though I like all of it.

My favourite anime is Spirited Away. I'm a big fan of the studio ghibli animes (Princess Mononoke, Castle In The Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service) and I can't wait for the rest of the movies to be released in the UK (I've been told "My Neighbour Totoro" is very good)

Recently I watched Detonator Orgun. It is AMAZING! It's actually the first time I have seen an anime movie about robots and aliens blowing each other up (even though that is the cliche of what anime is meant to be about!) I'm sure any anime fans will be telling me that Neon Genesis Evangelion is far superior Wink

2. Ghost In The Shell obviously, but in the light of the sequels I found the whole equal and opposite opponents thing was particularly obvious in X (released about three years before the first matrix movie, but only one year before filming began....)

3. Hmmm I'm hoping for some imaginative answers for this one. So obviously I'm going to completely dissapoint myself Wink

I reckon it would do well to be reasonably understated as a cartoon. I reckon something like the Samurai Jack style of cartoon would actually work really well. None of us (being matrix fans) want anything that will be outrageous and contradict what we have already seen, so what we really want is something that has an imaginative use of the matrix phenomena. Stand-alone episodes with simplistic but exciting artwork like Samurai Jack could work really well I reckon....

I have so many favorite animes it is impossible for me to list them all. Some of my favorites include: Chobits, Fruits Basket, Neon Genesis Evangelion, the Gundam series, Angel Sanctuary (for it's artwork), Love Hina, and Noir.

Urotsukidoji is pretty fucked up.
Spirited Away is pretty damn good, so's the Cowboy Bepop Movie and the series. Some great action in that. SF2 movie has great fights and isn't as slow or annoying as Street Fight Alpha movie. Or the shitty series that shouldn't exist, street fighter 2.

The Castle of Cagliostro is one my favourite animes. It's a part of the Lupin the 3rd series and is certainly worth looking for.
X is an ul wight flick, I take your word the manga is better, but I'm not a big manga or comic fan. Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with reading things, like books, comics just dont appeal to me unless the artwork is absolutely fantastic, like Spawn.

I've only seen 8 episodes of Orphan, it seemed alright, has anyone seen the whole series and is it good?
I saw the Japanese version of DBGT (screw the English, that's fucked up with all the 'YOU BIG BULLY' instead of the Japanese 'YOU FUCKING BASTARD') waaay befor the English version got released, and I thought it was kinda funny and kinda enjoyable. I havn't seen the English version because I'm scared it's just too crap.

I like Ghost in the Shell, I just can't imagine watching it again because it gets so boring.

I've seen Bubble Gum Crisis 2040, which is really crap. What's Bubble Gum Crisis like?

How many animes have you seen Another Smith? Sounds like you're just seeing the 3 animes that influenced some bits and concepts of the Matrix.

Hungarian Kid. I think it is fairly obvious (forgive me if I'm wrong Another Smith) that Another Smith has not seen many animes at all. The first anime movies that anyone sees are Akira and Ghost In The Shell (normally) and Ninja Scroll is fiercely recommended on the Animatrix extras.

All the same, this is a good start and I should hope that these jems of movies will spark Another Smith's interest and encourage her to see more in the future.

I'm gonna check out Street Fighter 2 the animated movie, because of the recommendations on this site.

After you see Ninja Scroll, Another Smith, I would have to recommend:

* Perfect Blue *

Pop star Mimi becomes an actress and then regrets it. But then she is visited by a vision of herself who is claiming to be still a pop star - she is everything Mimi has left behind. But Mimi's double seems to be more than simply a vision and Mimi begins to question all reality around her

* Princess Mononoke *

The movie which made the name of director Miyazaki. A warrior from a village becomes cursed by a demon boar. In the hope of finding a cure for the curse, he tries to find out what turned the boar into a demon in the first place.

* Spirited Away *

The latest movie by Miyazaki and, quite frankly, the best piece of animation I have ever seen in my entire life. (More importantly than with any other piece of anime I have seen! --- DO NOT WATCH IT WITH ENGLISH DUBBING!) It is an enchanting tale of an annoying immature girl who becomes trapped in a spirit world and is forced to grow up and take control of her life in order to escape.

* Blood: The Last Vampire *

A project overseen by Mamoru Oshii (Ghost In The Shell director). Very short - but a fantastic little story with amazing animation. Very cool.

To be honest, I am only just getting started with anime movies but I am beginning to get into manga now and I can only get nerdier as time goes on Wink

Doomed Megalopolis

Oooh the visitors to imdb.com don't seem to be that enamoured with it as a general rule....

imdb.com...

However, the first review I saw seems to love it. I haven't seen it around but I'll definately take notice if I find it on the shelf anywhere. Very Happy

Spriggan is fairly good. Blood is alright, didn't have enough story for my liking, but I still liked it for its other aspects. Perfect Blue rulz, that just happened to be on tv one night and it was fantastic. Great concept.

If you are going to get into Anime Another Smith (if you aren't already,) make sure you see Castle of Cagliostro.

Careful, I've seen alot of horrible animes and they aren't rare. Make sure an Anime is recommended befor ever seeing it. Me, I just see any that I can get my hands on.

Hrrmmmm, anyone here seen TeknoMan or the Transformers? I watched those when I was about 6, then I saw Goku Midnight Eye and Akira when I was 12 (very, very long time ago) and I've just gradually grown a strong liking for anime. There were a few animes in the middle (e.g. Pokemon, Digimon but they're shite) and then there was Beast Wars when I was 10 (spinoff of Tranformers) and DBZ and DBGT when I was 13 and the list goes on.
But yeah, I've grown up with Anime very heavily without realising it. But I've never been able to get into all that geeky convention stuff and buying anime novelty or anything, I just enjoy watching it.
