Hungarian Kid. I think it is fairly obvious (forgive me if I'm wrong Another Smith) that Another Smith has not seen many animes at all. The first anime movies that anyone sees are Akira and Ghost In The Shell (normally) and Ninja Scroll is fiercely recommended on the Animatrix extras.

You are absolutely right, these are the only films I have seen and I do wish to expand my horizons a little... so my thanks to you for your suggestions Fatpie, I will keep my eyes open for the titles you provided me with. Thanks very much.. Cool

Heh, you'll find there's alot of great animes, alot better then Ghost in the Shell. Akira is hard to beat though, that's a childhood memory one for me and will stick with me forever.

Hungarian Kid,

I also grew up w/anime w/o realizing it, starting w/Transformers, Voltron, and Robotech just to name a few. I'm also alot like you in the sense that I've never gotten into the covention, collection side of anime. However, when I worked at a video store w/4 guys like that, it really helped me to see some fantastic stuff. As I've mentioned before, check out Trigun. It is just a fantastic series. It's a shame there's only 26 episodes.

On another topic, I've been interested a newer series called Gungrave. Anybody have any thoughts on this one?

How would YOU be able to tell the difference between the dream world...and the real world?

Best 'childhood' anime i remember was Battle of the Planets, anyone recall this? it was bloody ace and the baddie was Dressed almost like a woman with lipstick! Zoltar or zoltan he was called.

Used to watch it every week after school.

The ship was called the Pheonix and had other craft hidden inside it for all five of the crew.

Yep, the episodes were cut because for a kids cartoon it had shed loads of violence in it. I remember watching it and thinking bits were missing from the story.

Because it is so damn cool! It is about a bunch of people in a MMORPG called 'The World' and people in the Real world are falling into comas.

en.wikipedia.org...

You can watch it on Youtube.

Digimon

It is about kids go to a digital world and fight with their digital monsters to save the digital world. Later on Digimon can actually go to the real world and cause chaos in the city streets. I reccomend you all watch Digimon: The Movie [which is more 'mature' and less kiddy] for starters [pick it up at Blockbuster].
The battle between Graymon [a T-Rex] and a giant green bird called Parrotmon was AWESOME!

Sprited Away

One of the greatest animated movies I have ever seen! It is about a girl who goes to the spirit world by accident and must save her friend Haku.

en.wikipedia.org...

Metropolis [2001]

About a gynoid [female robot, a male robot is an android] who does not know she is a robot and a boy who hates robots wants to kill her. Great action scenes! A movie that is right up there with Spirited Away on greatness.
en.wikipedia.org...

Gundam Wing
A great anime with giant robots. Great storyline! About five Gundam pilots who must band together to defeat a military organitaztion.
en.wikipedia.org...

Tenchi Muyo
I saw the edited version. Great anime. Has romance but with action.
en.wikipedia.org...

Outlaw Star
Another one of my favorites. About Jean Starwind and his space ship the Outlaw Star. Reminds me of Firefly.

Last Exile

A great anime done by Gonzo. Aired on G4's Anime Unleashed at night [Adult Swim]. About Claus and Lavie [two pilots] who must fight against an evil queen. Dogfights in th air and CG!

Rebel: I am trying to save the human race!

Me:People like YOU are the ones who started this mess. Ever watch the Animatrix?

Rebel:What?

Final Fantasy: Advent Children

GREAT movie entirely made of CG!

About a man named Cloud who must fight against the katana wielding Kadaj and save the world from Sephiroth. Based on the video game Final Fantasy VII by Square!

The fight scene between a giant dragon named Bahamut Sin and the gang is AWESOME! Gave me chill bumps!
