As we know, there is a certain sound which can be heard everytime a door opens to the hallway of backdoors.

In watching Revolutions recently, I think there is also a modem-like sound everytime the train enters the Mobil Ave. This would make sense but could someone check if you hear it too or is it just my imagination getting the better of me?

the first time the train arrives.. there is SOME kind of funny noise and crackling.. but i don't think its a modem sound... the 2nd time when Trin emerges from the train i did hear a modem like sound...

it reminded me a little of that funny digitization that happens to Neo's voice when he screams as the "mirror" goes down his throat.. but yeah.. that does remind me of a modem! lol

damn Akshat.. you've really made yourself busy since you got that Revolutions DVD finally!

Also, when The Trainman jumps in front of the train in Revolutions you hear something that sounds like a phone ringing. Of course it could just be the sound of the train wheels, but it sounds like a phone.

Unfortunately no one can be told what The Matrix is...You have to see it for yourself.

Great. Let us know if you find anything.

Oscar- I saw that train scene again in the subway station. I think that is only the sound of the train and not the phone or anything.

Well, very intresting. First I would like to say hello and it's great to be back. Some of you probably might have remembered me and good to see all you again.

Yes, to answer some of your questions. I do own the Revolutions dvd and I finally saw it. I also purchased the Animatrix to increase my knowledge of the Matrix universe.

Anyway, to your question AG. I have repeatly watched Revolutions, just like AG, and do agree I heard the modem dial tone when the Trainman jumped over to it. Although it is brief, it is heard.

"The Matrix has you."

Nice finding...but it could be that the sound effect engineer uses the modem to imitate or enhance the sound of the train...i dunno...but still interesting, it may lead to other doors Wink

no i don't think he put it there to imitate the train noise.. Dane Davis is very methodical in his sound effects... he always tries to use things that relate to that actual noises themselves..

for example for the sound of the hovercrafts.. he ran 30,000 volts through a metal ladder and recorded the noises as the electricity was arcing! also for the fighting noises.. he would actually be hitting pieces of meat to get the organic aspect of it..

so he doesn't really use things artificially like that.. if he modem noises in there.. i'm pretty sure its for a symbolic reason.. and not to try and recreate the train noises.

The characteristic sound of the train arriving at Mobil Ave is related to the sound when Neo is unplugged in M1 and the sound when the away teams exit the matrix via the telephone. As far as I can tell, its implied that trainman uses a telephone to transfer himself to the Mobil Ave Express train. The Matrix movies tend to follow certain rules that are consistant throughout. One rule is that to leave the matrix you MUST use a telephone. Since Mobil Ave. is not in the Matrix, a telephone is involved -- thus the carrier sound effect!

No no no, I dont think so. The telephone is used to go from the Matrix to the real world. The Trainstation isnt in the real world. Its a virtual world. The sound effect is just like that so we can make some computer analogy of it. And to clarify, the sound effect takes place when a train enters Mobil Ave. Not when a train in the Matrix leaves or anything.

The sound of the Code

This thread resembles me about some thought that were floating in my mind after I've seen Reloaded once again some time before.

You remember the sounds when all the matrix movies starts and that visual travel through the code into the matrix? I would call this a sound for code. It is repeated many times in Reloaded and my theory on that is that the 'sound of the code' means that someone (most of the time Neo) operates the code, that is - he is breaking the rules of the system.

Where did it appear?
- when Neo starts flying (and the ground moves in waves aroun him)
- when Seraph opend the backdoors by a key (and also later in Chateau)
- when Neo fights Smith, here and there, when he does some amazing thick, there is the sound of the code too
- when Smith takes over the ordinaly people
- once again, when Neo flyes out of Burly brawl, the code can be heard
- when Merv's desert is being served, we can also see the code in the picture, and Merv definitely manipulates the code somehow
- when the twins disappear (everytime)
- when Neo fight Merv's suite, the waepons that are used also makes a sound of the code - maybe they are some special kind of weapons (not poisoned but manipulating the code to be even deadlier)
- there is a background sound in Architect's chamber that reseble the code too, but it can be just the sound of the screens (but only really old screens make such sound, I guess) - it can underline the fact that Archie 'taps' the code while watching his screens
- when Neo brings Trinity back to life

Another sound, similar to code, but still distinctive, can be heard when people are leaving the matrix via telephones. Because it is similar, it may signify hacking of the matrix from outside - which is certainly a code-manipulation. I think also the sound when Neo enters Archie's chamber is quite similar to this sound - maybe it is just a sound of 'leaving the matrix'.

Yet another sound (but similar to the code) can be heard when Smith takes over Bane and when he tries to take over Neo (and when Neo defend himself, the sound is run backward, I guess). It is like the sound of uploading some piece of the code (virus?) into Bane or Neo and when Neo retreats it just send back the same way.

What do you think about this? I don't have musician's ears but I hope I identified the sounds right ... and don't have a Revolutions DVD to compare the sounds there Sad

Did you also notice that the agents of the system have voices that sounds like computer generated/adjusted (in the Terminator style)? They are not human voices and I think it was also deliberate.

Very keen observations!

Our physical world provides us a level of existence. But when we arrive at a forum like this under a user id and an avatar image, we get another level of existence. This transition happens thru an Internet connectivity, which for many people is achieved by some sort of modem going off with the peculiar screeching noise.

The train world in M3 can be modem like in that sense. It is one way of connecting different levels of existence. Hence, they might have chosen to associate the train with modem sound.

i just noticed in the Neo-Persephone kiss scenes, they inserted a quiet, but clear matrix code-whoosh kinda noise - first when they show the close up as their lips meet.. and again when they show the close up of their lips parting.

this is indicative of Persephone's ability to read code

Yeah, there's a thread from a while back talking about this. I've always thought the sound symbolized Persephone's ability to read code and download information/emotions from individuals. I'll see if I can find the thread for you.

How would YOU be able to tell the difference between the dream world...and the real world?

I noticed Persephone's kissing sound recently too.

I also noticed the particular `Ahhh' ing sound- a purity type sound- when Neo is in the hallway of backdoors. However, Im uncertain as to whether the same sound is there in the cutscenes for Enter the Matrix. My Windows Media Player isn't working so could someone check?

no the same noise is not present in Enter the Matrix.. however it's worth pointing out that the 'Ahh'-ing purity noise as u describe it, is simply part of the movie score at that part of the movie.. when the scene cuts to Trinity, Morpheus and Link ("where'd they go?") the 'Ahh'-ing is still playing.

when Neo, Morpheus and the Keymaker enter the corridor and bump into Smith(s) later ("I'm sorry.. this is a dead end.") the score is different.
